My pharmacist cousin (not the hdl kind) lives in an open carry state and is proud of that. Even as such, I'm sure he doesn't open carry because it's retarded to do that. I guess as long as you know your state is OC and that is well known, but there's a difference between a tactial holster with a tactical black mini glock, and a brown cowboy holster with gold studs and a shiny chrome .50AE desert eagle for all to see, or worse, an AR-15, which makes people think you are going to shoot up the place and rightfully so. I had a silver fs92, but would not open carry that, or anything else ever because that's retarded. Maybe if I was going to a gun show for the ease of access, but that's it.
I think in general captain falcon is right, open carry is unnecessary and is ripe for causing disturbances where society is at. We are not going back to open carry days, OP. Concealed carry is so much more safer and effective because you don't give away that you are the first target a school shooter needs to kill in order to carry out the shooting/newport robbery without dying. Plus you don't scare people or cause them to think you are a threat, especially the police.
Gun owners know this which is why nobody open carries except libertarian party retards who want to want to make people nervous by uninvitedly explaining their rights to them.
The advantage of open carry is that you can carry in niche situations like on your way to a camping trip or over to the shooting range or something without getting a gun charge, and that's about it.

A lot of it (why people open carry/argue for it etc) is probably to do with the 2nd amendment and people trying to ensure their rights are not infringed upon/chipped away at.

arguing about open carry vs concealed carry is retarded without knowing first and foremost the purposes and utilities of the said gun bearer.
guns are just like watches, some wear them to keep time, some wear them as fashion statements, while others bear them to indicate their social amd financial statuses and not just for protections.
its just plain silly to tell someone who wear their guns for fashion that concealled carry is better.
