2019-07-03 at 9:10 PM UTCUp to a month average wait times to start seeing an oncologist once you get a cancer diagnosis. Surgery wait times can be pretty damn absurd (6-12 months) unless it's an emergency. ER wait times also become horrendous.
That said, I think the minimal drop in quality of healthcare/timeliness of treatment is more than made up for by the fact that it's available to everyone. It should be somewhat hybridized ideally, where you can pay for the best treatment/access to doctors if you have the money. Not that I'll ever be rich enough to avail myself of such services, but "equal quality of care for everyone" is pretty shit when you're actually well off. Canadians just go to America when they have the money. If American healthcare turns into Canadian healthcare, then shit. -

Pretty sure Canada has private oncologists etc. So you have a choice: free care that alright or pay for better care. In America you don't have an option, you just get raped. Either you get raped by insurance you will never get anything from or you don't buy insurance and get raped if something ever does happen to you. Either way you are raped for having the audacity to be human. -

You can't get faster service than the service wait times of the people on universal free health care, even if you pay for it. It's illegal. Remember, socialist Canada is based on fairness and equality and the human element, not on any sense of logic or practicality or common sense. They don't let you pay to get faster/better service, because that would be open discrimination on the poor. Everyone has to wait. -

i like that. a lot. thats the way it should be. America's health care system only benefits the rich. -

Does this apply to private doctors in private facilities or is it just that you can't pay money to jump the list for the public system? -

But if people who had the money to burn to get faster/better service, that would free up the free healthcare system for all the people dying and waiting to be helped. As it is, they have gurneys with patients with critical ailments lined up in the hallways for days, not even able to get a room. People bleeding to death in hospital waiting rooms. People who have suffered heart attacks being told there's no doctor available to help them. -
