Steam Summer Sale

Originally posted by HTS Yeah, it's only 2 hours. I didn't even play it after buying. I knew I wanted the game, I've pirated it before, but the sort of "sword of damocles" that was the $100s worth of DLC made me actually back out of purchasing it in any form. So there's sort of two sides to the sword, I guess. When you put out over $100 worth of DLC you are definitely treading a fine ass line. Your content better be on fucking point, or catering to a very specific niche of guaranteed purchasers. There's not much between Sims 3 DLC and CK2 DLC except the particular brand of autism they're meant for. I dunno.

On the one hand yeah, on the other hand that's bullshit. If you're playing a game you couldn't have played without paying, there's a lost sale. But if the game is so shit that - after playing it - you would never consider actually paying for it, then the ethical failure could be said to be on the part of the developer rather than the player. Expecting money for an experience that's not worth money is not justifiable. The 90s were basically peak gaming, what with all the demo disks/freeware floating around.

How do you know it is a lost sale? Maybe that person would have never bothered with the game to begin with. I absolutely would have never, ever paid for Stardew Valley before playing it. I thought it looked like a garbage game and did not expect much when I first played it. It looked like harvest moon/animal crossing lite to me. But now I like it better than either of those series

All that said some companies deserve to get pirated in to oblivion or if it's got a lot of drm then wait for the crack and pirate it.
Y'all remember when EA used to make good games? any of you play lotr the two towers? that used to be so good

So I actually refunded my stupid $5 purchase.

It's pretty awesome being in this position as a consumer, to be honest. It makes the decision to purchase pretty much totally subjective. Even if the alternative is kind of immoral. Eh. I just feel blessed to experience this ethical quandary. 30 years ago people wouldn't have had the choice.

You don't need to buy all the DLC, that would be stupid. The DLC for Sims 3 is awesome and it is an awesome system tbh. You just buy what you are interested in doing. Buying them all would be entirely too much content and probably most of it would be completely irrelevant to your experience.

Right. Thats why you pirate it so you can have everything on deck without worrying about wasting money on content you won't use.
The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire!

They used to make games that would only run on certain video cards, because they'd made cash deals with the video card companies on the sly, but they wouldn't put any information about it at all on the game CD, and at the same time they'd tell the retailers not to refund any disks for any reason (ironically, using the piracy gambit as the excuse). So you'd get stuck with a game you can't play that you just paid $40 for. They'd also make side deals with unscrupulous companies to auto-install malicious software along with their game, without the user's knowledge, leading to compromises of the buyer's system. They didn't give a shit, as long as they got the cash. That's only a couple of examples among hundreds of ways they screw their own customers over. And people actually feel sorry for these slimy dirtbags? Just download anything they shit out for free. Who gets the laugh last then, eh?

One thing I do feel like pirating is Nintendo games the are just oof using expensive. The 3ds is dead and Nintendo still charges like 40 bucks for their games or at least 20 an even more digitally. What the futz. Someone help me crack the 3ds. I mean Ben on Amazon’s used section Metroid for 3ds never dips below 30. This is the dead 3ds here.

Even pirating everything would be stupid. Just install 1 or 2 at a time.

Have you played any Don't Starve yet? I bought it myself and it looks pretty fun, just trying to figure out if I should play it sooner rather than later. :o

If it’s Don’t Starve Together then yes it’s super fun. I don’t play video games but I watched my roommates get cracked out on that for a while.

DST is super fun but obviously more fun with a friend, there's a ton of mods so you can play as a lot of custom chars.
