what exactly is the method for "getting over" depressing things?

give me your welfare checks then. there's free food and water outside and in the trash and homeless shelters or abandoned buildings you can use as shelter. that's all you need, right? give up your material possessions and live a simplistic life. as a matter of fact, don't give that shit to me i don't want it. give it to charity or someone who could actually use it since you require so little to be happy

You don't need to be homeless to practice simplistic living. I fast all the time which supposedly helps the immune system.

Just small things that change your daily life when they add up.

yea but since you're content with those basic things and i'm not then it shouldn't even be a problem for you, right? it shouldn't make a difference to you since all you need is easily available for free. or could it really be that welfare check that keeps you complacent and you trick yourself into thinking you're happy? I GUESS WE WILL NEVER FIND OUT

It doesn't make a difference and the secrets to being happy are not free, it requires a lot of self sacrifice, time and effort which is why people take a vow of poverty so they can focus on spirituality.

You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.

If you don’t look for the meaning of life, as it pertains to you, it’s not gonna jump out and find you. Some people have a need to find some meaning in this craziness, it can give them a sense of calm. I try not to put too much into figuring out the meaning of this insanity, I try to take it as it comes.

I stand by my original statement. Just do it. It is perhaps the least helpful thing that you could be told, but "how do I get over depression/depressing things" is probably the worst question you can ask. You'll get infinite platitudes about exercise, eating right, having a schedule, becoming religious, talking to a therapist, not taking drugs, taking the right drugs, etc etc etc but there is literally no method that actually works and in the end you just have to get over it. Bad shit happens, and if you can't shake the negative feelings then you've just gotta live with them.

Any coping mechanism that people suggest is going to be a "your mileage may vary" type situation, and you probably already know what they're going to tell you to do anyway. *shrug*

Meaning isn't something things just have, meaning is something given to things by people.

Whether to give his life meaning or not is something he has to decide for himself. If he can find himself.

Exactly! But finding the meaning that works for you and gives you solice, is something many of us yearn for. There’s nothing wrong with that. Now, when those thoughts consume your every moments, there’s there’s usually something else going on.

Exactly as well. The meaning he finds is not the meaning you find, or the meaning I find. If he wants it bad enough, and is willing to force himself, he’ll get start getting inner peace.

"Just do it" as in "just doing it is the best way to get over things", not "just do it" as in "neck yourself, faggot". In case that needed clarification.

    When misery reigns, it pours.

As a side note, the gif of the guy hanging himself shows at least one thing. He was pretty determined, in a morbid way it was interesting to see him fight the urge to stop himself from choking. Some determination. Jeez.

In any case, "distract yourself" just means go immerse yourself in things that take your mind of it. I suggest you do that, at some point all the things you have immersed yourself in will become more important than your misery. Feeling sorry for yourself feels comfy, but it's an unproductive coping strategy.

I really wonder how much of that was instinctual and how much of it was him consciously fighting with wanting to live. Was he having second thoughts when he did it or just fighting automatic response?

What a horrible way to go.
