Why is Windows XP so fucking lightning fast but Windows 10 is absolute garbage?

    This is bullshit.

Too much moisture can get in the drive and cause damage to the platter. Another way to extend the life significantly is to use the Windows ChkDsk to write off/mark off bad sectors, so the system won't use them.

This is also bullshit. There's no "rating" for hard drive life, and the average life span of a hard drive is 5-7 years. Moving it does nothing unless you are slamming it around and causing the head to hit the plates. Checkdisk does fuck all as well.

What uh..... Does that have to do with what we were discussing? I said XP runs good because it's on much newer than required hardware, his rebuttal was that the hardware isn't new by today's standards, and my response was that the hardware is still far more powerful than XP requires. If he was running it on a Pentium II with the minimal 256mb of ram (for PRE SERVICE PACK 2) it would absolutely run like dog shit.

IDk, I managed to use all of them fine. I like Windows XP, always have. Vista was aggravating, but with service packs some of that got cleaned up to where it was pretty usable. Barely ever used 7. Windows 8 has a lot of retard, but the retard is mostly hidden if you want it to be. I never really use the start button anyway, file manager find your stuff and the OS is OK. Windows 10 is v nice but I finally have a nice machine, so who knows.

Never buy a $600 laptop. You can get the same shit in a $300 laptop, but you can't do the things you really want to do on a $600, you can't play games better than age of empires full stop, so just save yourself the 300 bucks, but that was a few years ago when my $600 bucks got me a fucking 1366x768 and I didn't know anything about screens and that was a pointless purchase. You need to spend a couple hundred more to get a nice display and be able to play like, idk like the sims 3 maybe? idk i havent used mine yet really, but I spend like $900 with taxes and I got 4k so w/e

The era when you could easily get aDSL but most people still had dial-up was the best.

Not only did I have 56k dial-up, it would cut out every 30 minutes to an hour so I would have to constantly re-dial.
    *sips*
I would have to cover my desktop with pillows or blankets so my dumb bitch of a mom couldn't hear the sreeking loud noise, but man ... if only I could hear that sound again.
    *sips*
I had to go to the library to download sim files and highly compressed wmv clips from the websites that would later influence what people now refer to as "youtube poop"
    *sips*
    those were the days

No but I just remembered that I would have to sign out whenever somebody wanted to make a phone call and I would get complained at for hogging up the phone line.

So I got my first computer in 1992. a compaq I think it was.

AOL came with it. I was like WTF is this and I installed the floppy and it was like attach phone line. and I was like Ohh waaaa? and then I am at their menu. And I was like "Chat room.. hmm ok" and then I was introduce to what "Online" was. and it was just what came to be known to me as an IRC and I see what I thought was a message board chat loading (which I remember from the 70s from a school computer CS class in 8th grade) but it was a bunch of knuckleheads talking in real time.

and then I realized.. this is a conversation in real time and I jumped in. I said "Is this real time" and they were like "no" or Duh" and so I felt a bit stepped on and said "Hey we're all new at this at some time" and was introduced to some more sarcasm. this sarcasm became to be known (as I learned) "Trolling" and thus the game began.

AOL was free for 10 hours. then 5 bucks an hour after that. But here was the interesting thing. AOL encourage a new account for a free new 10 hours. The operator said "hey, just between you and I.. you can just ask for your CC card to be reset then reinstall a new disk you can get from a computer store".

Later I found out that the millions of accounts made were mostly cancelled and recreations from the same people. the real number was in the 10s or 100 thousand users. not the millions. this is called Stock Price Padding to make the stock values look better. Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter and (No doubt friend of Jeff Hunter) was CEO of AOL near Stanford U in Palo Alto back in the 90s and 2k period.

But there was also Comp-U-Serve dialup. not as friendly with the freebies. so I fucked off Comp-U-Serve which had some amazing free shit off their online bank. Games and shit. the first 3D game I played (Wolfenstein) I might of got from them.

AOL was the first place I learned about the Internet. But it didn't seem to work on my first 9600bps modem.

it worked it just loaded all retarded and slow.

I never could figure out if there was a way to use telnet on a dialup to connect to the internet. I mean how would you? you're not on an IPS so how can a url domain load. is there a program that converts this to a gateway of some type using just a dialup?

by the late 1990s (like 98-99) we got DSL and then Cable internet. I think it was Viacom which just had been bought out by Comcast.. but went on the brand Viacom for some time. can't remember that far fucking back. our DSL was all retarded and slow. Walnut Creek was free dialup until the DSL was available and then they started charging toll to phones. the guy up the street could call Walnut Creek for free but we were just over that fuck-tarded toll line. this caused my wife to go off on me with a 200 dollar plus phone bill that was like 15 bucks the month before for the same shit. So I got DSL.

You're all young noobians. you wouldn't remember dialup and how you literatlly became your computer.. you would feel your body tighten up and your bughole pucker up everytime you heard that gurgling sound of the processor fucking up with glitches and then drop carrier. everytime you fucking were downloading something and that shit stopped at 98-99% and got linenoise on the screen.

When I started, we had to use SCSI "Skuzzy", so you had to essentially guess at the jumper configuration for your hard drive, by trial and error, in order to get it to be recognized by the system. It could be a real bitch if you had IRQ/DMA/memory conflicts between your devices.
