Did you have to get much work done? I was in hospital with some Ukrainian guy who had to have several operations, and apparently it'll be 6 months before he can walk, he just jumped down of some scaffolding at work the same as hundreds of times before. -

I spent like a month in a huge, full leg cast because I wanted to avoid having work done, but in the end I had to get surgery. Just the once for me, which was a relief. I guess I could go back in to have to screws removed but I kinda like the idea of being part metal. -

There is a lot of ligament damage to the ankle and foot too I think, but that's soft tissue and gets better slowly.
Going by your x-rays, surgical screws, plates, and one pin, you broke the end of your tibia in one place, and both ends of the fibula. The small plate with screws in it are there to hold together a fracture on the end of the fibula. The one long screw in your tibia is there to hold that fragment in place. The fibula fracture at the top cannot be screwed in place. The bone is close enough that bone growth will form, and it will be held back together naturally. The fact that they left it like that, and that they are able to remove the one screw, means they feel you’re young enough that you will still produce enough bone to form healing sites. Your age is on your side.
Soi, your ankle will never be the same again, I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Arthritis will set in earlier than most, and your range of motion will be reduced. Physical therapy will help a lot!! Don’t blow it off.
I’ve been in on these surgeries before, they use live x Ray guidance to place the plates and screws.
BTW fracture=break. There is no difference as many think.
Oh and one more bit of bad news☹️ Ligaments and tendons take longer to heal than bones.The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire! -

I was on the receiving end of two ct guided biopsies when I had cancer, it was quite amusing, but sore. Also I’m apparently at my lifetime limit for X-ray exposure - no idea how that works -

I’ve never heard anyone say that a person is at their lifetime limit. I don’t know for sure how they’d figure that for laymen, but they can take us out of the field for a time if our exposure is over the limit, that’s why we wear those badges (dosimeters) that measure our exposure. They figure ours by age and cumulative dose. Can’t quite remember the formula off the top of my head.
There are people in the ICU that receive xrays daily for months on end. I think they’re just letting you know that you want to avoid xray if possible, but if you need a xray, it’s usually something you can’t avoid. We don’t like xraying pregnant woman, but it has to be done at times. Just make sure you ask to be shielded when you get X-rays. Not all techs are good at using shielding. -
2019-05-31 at 1:20 PM UTCI spent like 3 months in, had xrays every second day or so. I hear CTs cause about 100x the exposure of normal xrays too. I also had an MRI and 2 PETs. If they had done a PET they could have diagnosed me right away, instead I had to get a diagnosis and then got a PET for staging.
But I don’t think the level of exposure to anything was objectively serious, although I might be wrong. The body bounces back pretty well when you’re young -

What do you mean by shielding? Like shielding other parts of your body that aren't getting xray'd? Why do they not do that every time? -

2019-05-31 at 2:53 PM UTCShielding is using lead aprons on the area that is not being xrayed. There are times when shielding cannot be utilized, depending on the area being xrayed.
It may not get used every time because the tech is too lazy to do it. There’s no shame in asking for a shield. -

I'm glad that everything seems to be healing OK, and they seemed keen for me to keep walking around, which is great. I hate having to use crutches or wearing a walker-boot.
They said healing should be more or less over by 6 months (it's 2 months in).
My pain prescription:
Take a minimum of 6 Guinness a day.

I got a hand x-rayed recently and the tech didn't give me any shielding. When I asked about it, I was thinking that I might get a vest to shield my organs. The tech put a shield in my lap!
