It is a dark piece of technology only to be used for DARK WICKED PURPOSES. I cannot fucking WORK OR TYPE WORTH SHIT ON THIS BOARD. This is the wretched piece of plastic and metal that birthed FRONT PAGE FLUSH and a lot of my posts on rdfrn and since the summer.

I need a new one and the holiday season is coming up. POST SOME HIGH END BRANDS/NAMES/DEVICES. I want the BEST KEYBOARD ON THE MARKET. I need a new mouse too. My main purpose is GAMING and CLACKITY CLACKING (writing, research, business). The budget is $1000. Help me out here.

I use a corsair scimitar mouse, has a 12-button keypad ont he side. would've gotten the roccat nyth instead but it's close to twice the price
as for keyboards do you have a switch preference, the cherry colours as above or something else like mattias?
also form factor - fullsize/tenkeyless/60% or smaller etc -

Thats a pretty nice mouse. I can't believe some of the gimmicks they have for keyboard and mice these days.
I really don't know whats best, from what I read black,blue/brown are best for gaming. I checked out some around $200 pieces, Corsair RGB, etc, but nothing stood out.

2016-12-07 at 1:35 AM UTCfor gayming red/brown are the most popular, blue not so much because of the loud clicking sound. blacks aren't terribly popular in general because they take a lot of force to press. if you're not familiar with the switch types next time you go to a store that sells them ask if they have a switch tester:
if you're not concerned with fancy LEDs I was going to recommend the coolermaster stealth - I have one somewhere with red switches, comfortable and looks ace, but I don't think they make them anymore

2016-12-07 at 4:56 AM UTCRight, reds aren't clicky at all, it's entirely a linearly increasing resistance with no tactile bump as in the category of brown and up, and no audible click as with the category of blue and up. Since the reds are the lightest linear switches, you will typically hear a 'click' as you bottom the keys out, but this has nothing to do with the key mechanism.
The linear switches I think are the most misunderstood and maligned of the Cherry types, especially for people who got into mechanical keyboards because they liked the clicky feedback. I started with an IBM Model M (1391401) with buckling springs so I can definitely understand the desire for this click, but currently my favorite setup is probably MX reds with red 40A-L o-rings to dampen the sound of bottoming out, as well as shorten the travel distance. Since I type heavily, I will press the keys as far as they'll go anyway, so it helps to have a short throw. Meanwhile, MX blacks are heavy enough to tire my fingers out, and the only place for a grey switch is on the spacebar of a keyboard with blacks, for example.
This preference is hardest to explain. Usually you only have to show people the nice crispy click or whatever, and they see the point. But why reds, especially with o-rings? Now to some people it just seems mushy again like their shitty cheap keyboard was. I have used this setup for twitchy FPS gaming and for competitive typing (as well as all day at work) and I love it for both. Even though there is no tactile feedback, the behavior of the mechanism is still extremely consistent and reliable and can be expected to remain so for many millions of keystrokes. There is no sense of imbalance or stumbling in my fingers when typing on it, the keys always do precisely what I intended them to do when I intended them to do it. I have some bad memories of shitty keyboards where the keys stick for the briefest moment and fuck up my rhythm and all these little things like that. The lack of the tactile click/bump seems to allow me to 'flow' better in fast typing. There is no need to release the key all the way up past the tactile bump to reset; this allows, to me, easier and faster striking of double letters. This also makes using the WASD (or rather ESDF) in games a lot better. It seems like I can tap-release-tap or change direction that much faster and easier, or generally have a better sense of fine control.
I wasn't really sure about the point of a linear switch either, but I was lucky enough to come across a keyboard with MX blacks at an electronics recycling place I used to work at, so I got to try it out and see why people bother. Maybe nobody can really be convinced about this until they try it out for gaming or speed typing or whatever they get up to.

Here you can see a similar action but without the separate piece that snaps down -- here we only overcome the resistance of the metal clip, producing the tactile resistance bump but with no extra audible click induced by the key mechanism. You can make about as much noise if you press the keys all the way down, however.

Here we can see that there isn't a bump that we have to get past the metal piece. There is only the smooth travel and the increasing resistance of the spring.
