Do you think you'd be brave enough to be in a gunfight?
-
2019-05-16 at 1:04 AM UTCIf I was assigned to kill people I would be almost entirely fearless. If I have a job to do, I have almost no fear at all. Otherwise, I wouldn't want to be in one.

2019-05-16 at 11:39 AM UTCDepends on what sort of gunfight I guess - I figure a protracted, modern military firefight would be a lot harder on the psyche than a 'wild-west' style duel.
I think a gunfight would be preferable to combat with other weapons though, given you're more likely to die slowly or be permanently crippled as the result of a knife fight for example. -

Don't need to be brave just need to be accurate and have the necessary skills and training. I go to the range at least once a month to hone my skills, have completed several advanced classes and play this a lot on the 2600.

you sounds like people who go to the gym to punch sandbags for a few hours a week and think they are gonna be a winner in any fist fight.
until they find out that unlike sandbags, real people punch back. -
2019-05-16 at 6:15 PM UTCBrave is a choice
You don’t get a choice with gunfights
You either gettin shot or if you have a gun defending yourself -

2019-05-17 at 10:30 AM UTCIm honestly not sure. Considering my hands get shaky when I get angry and my heart rate goes up , when start talking shit- I don't consider myself a "brave" person. That said, every single time in my life where there's been an occasion to put myself in harms way for someone else, I've done it. Fights, getting shot at, jumping into a rip current to save someone, jumping off a boat, dragging a friend off a live transformer (?) box, etc. CA doesn't have open carry though, and I'm not near as fast or strong as I was 10 years ago, so I'd probably just die in the attempt. That's okay with me though. I think.
But yeah whenever I hear about a school shooting. I'm always puzzled as to why more people don't try to subdue the shooter. -

The question was about being brave Vinny..not winning or losing.
If you are IN a gunfight whether you are brave or not is at that point quite irrelevant...it's all about how accurate you are and what training you've had/done. Only an idiot would want to be in a gun fight. -

Not really relevant to the critical aspects of accuracy. Shooting accuracy is something you do have to practice at or it will become a lost skill.
Whether your targets is shooting at you or not...it doesn't matter if you're missing the target by 10ft...and again in the "heat" of a gunfight bravery isn't really a thing...it's either shoot or be shot (or possibly both). -
2019-05-17 at 12:57 PM UTCI don't know about bravery but I would be fine in one, even though I would do whatever was necessary to absolutely avoid a firefight, or a fight in general.

Yep bravery doesn't have shit to do with it.
...just as if you were attacked by someone with a knife and regardless of if you had one or not..you'd fucking fight for your life...at least the vast majority of people would. They wouldn't just curl up and say "please don't stab me another 39 times, that 27th one hurt".
Stupid question really Oppy. -
2019-05-17 at 1:02 PM UTCTbh some people are just bitches though and can't turn on fight mode.

Exceptions to every rule of course, but most people when faced with fight for your life or die are going to at least try. It's the instinct of survival and the adrenaline pumping through you etc...nothing to do with "bravery"...that's strictly Hollywood. -
2019-05-17 at 1:48 PM UTCIts....HIGH NOON.

True but guns are hardly something you can use instinctually. Maybe if someone is coming at you hand to hand, most people would probably start swinging at least. But where guns are involved, your hands can't be shaking. I think a lot of people would just be fucked in a gunfight because they remotely cannot gather their nerves in that type of situation.
