Jaguar X308 : Finishing Stages

My current personal vehicular love interest :

2000 Jaguar X308/XJ8 thus far I've rebuilt the problematic ZF tranny w/ a forged drum & upgraded pressure regulator, all metal timing tensioners & guides, beefed up the rear differential w/ a modified ratio(not @ liberty to reveal here lol). Full suspension replacement(all shocks, bushings, mounts, bump stops) & wheel bearings.

    Audio :
Head Unit : Kenwood DPX501BT (one of the few that would fit without having to hack everything beyond OEM recovery option)
Speakers : (Door) Rockford Fosgate P165 6.5' 2-ways w/ Memphis Audio 12' subs & amp in ported enclosure rear firing in trunk.

    Wheels :
November 2018 I upgraded my base Starburst Jag rims to the rarer Pentas(I found dead stock & shipped from a Coventry England warehouse). The Pentas are standard on the older XJR(supercharged version) & are 18' as opposed to the 16' that came standard on mine. I didn't want to sacrifice any ride comfort, so instead of the OEM called for 255/40R18 tire I went w/ 245/45/18 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. Which fits the wheel well much better & the sidewall doesn't sacrifice much if any support for comfort , it also has a slight lip for rim protection = win/win lol. Really pleased with the set-up, refined when need be & still a beast on the bends !

Being the car's nearly 20 years old, the last thing I have to do is coming up March 2nd & that's the paint. It looks great @ about 7-10 feet but since I started washing & waxing it myself, I noticed all the clear coat faults & dings. She will be @ 100% complete come spring 2019 !

Also pondering going w/ the very rare full wood wheel, even though I hunted for monthes to find the proper conditioned half-wood wheel I installed just 3 mo.'s ago lol.

    Current half-wood :

    Full Wood :

New rims are getting blitzed by brake dust regardless of the pads. I'm going w/ custom brake caliper covers to try & catch some of it. Spoke w/ the people @ MGP Caliper Covers & came up w/ these aerospace aluminum, engraved, powder coated. No cheesy fake bolts etc.

    https://www.calipercovers.com/

They don't currently offer any for the X308 but after my order & experience they will likely proceed w/ making them. Should be here next week.

theres a reason the thing happen the way it is.

wheels are designed to pull air thru the brake rotors and brake callipers to cool them down.

interferring with that will only interfere with the cooling process and causing pad dust to build up. stop this sodomy and your assault against the order of nature immediately.

    sodomy is wrong.

Negative ghostrider the covers act as a heat sink in this scenario. The CCs will be removed to clean every 1000 miles or so to remedy dust build up. You don't think my beloved 2 ton land yacht required any fore thought did you lol ?!

no, the covers themselves have insufficient surface area and conductivity to carry sufficient heat into it and dessipate into the moving air.

and b, imagine puting on an airtight and waterprooof suit that trap your sweats all day long for a week instead of being able to sweat and cool your body at will ?

thats kinda of how this is.

but then its your car and i think your free to sodomize it as you please, so good for you i guess.

You're making assumptions where as I am using previous experience, the caliper covers worked perfectly on my previous long wheelbase X308 which is heavier.

    PS
    They are not air tight.

well the fact that brake dusts dont ended up stuck to your rims is prove enough that the airs arent passing thru the calliper assembly and dragging heat and dusts out thru the rims.

i'm not disputing the fact that they will work just fine, so long as you arent involved in high brake use situations like street racings or coming down the mountains, what im saying that its suboptimal cooling and against the way their designed to work,

like sodomy. or ass fuck by any other name.
