That's not even counting the attempted shoplifting cases I've processed, which is in the hundreds. A lot of people think LP can't get you unless you leave the store with the merch. Not true. Let's say you pick up a compact disk and rip off all the plastic and tear the CD out of its packaging and stuff it down your pants. Then you see LP is following you, so you throw the CD into a random merchandise rack and walk out. That's attempted theft and you will be absolutely arrested and charged as such.
Can you actually legally "arrest" people? Like, doesn't the person have the right to not go with you? Or is it different in canada? -

Aldi is easy as hell to shoplift from. They have like 6 cameras and no floor staff or dedicated LP. I got some raw unenhancemented honey a while ago. -

Yeah my local Aldi often only has 1 person in there...a couple of months ago I was in line and a guy just walked out with a bunch of shit and the girl checking us out (the only person there) didn't know what to do, so she just shrugged and kept on ringing up the groceries. -
2019-05-08 at 7:54 PM UTCWorking at grocery store, a drunk guy was angry at me and stole a sunday paper off the register. I told the managers behind me and they said just dont do anything

Yeah, LP makes arrests. The shoplifter has the right to remain at the spot they are arrested until the cops arrive, or they can agree to come back into the store. If you don't fight back and ask to remain on the spot and LP forces you upstairs anyways, they can be successfully sued, maybe even criminally charged. Most LP are way too stupid to know that, though. -
2019-05-08 at 9:03 PM UTCWalmarts a joke, used to take a beer from there almost every day for almost a year until they finally hired an LP who caught me. Got a 24 hour trespass notice and was told id receive a letter in the mail threatening to sue if I don't pay up.
Never got a letter, never heard from them again ever. I got the feeling O.P was a belligerent shit and theres more to this story. -

I once saw someone straight up run out the main doors with a 30 pack of toilet paper while one of the supervisors runs to the door and just stands there looking at him. Knowing its too late. -

2019-05-09 at 3:04 PM UTCWouldn't they look at the cameras going back if someone actually SUCCESSFULLY walked out with a TV? I know they don't for most things because it's way too much footage, but it's a TV. It's huge.

Maybe the TV they stole was the one in the security room so they can't watch the play back of the cameras. -
2019-05-09 at 4:04 PM UTCI had 10 VCRs setup, and I installed CCTV cameras myself on every exit and all the hot spots. They would tape 24/7, so I could go back at any point in time, review the relevant tapes, then make zoomed screen captures of the faces to post on my bulletin board.
