Macs are no different from building your own except they use integrated graphics as the default instead of a high end graphics card.
You'll end up paying around the same if you build your own or buy from a company like lenovo or whoever.
Well no he's perfectly right, underpowered, over priced and a heavily restricted app store.
And no, you can build your own PC far more powerful than a mac for a fraction of the cost...simply because for starters the massive availability of parts in the PC industry and again...lack of restrictions.
Edit: oh and if your MAC dies...good look getting it repaired at a reasonable cost..."yeah mate you need a new motherboard that's going to be $1100..." Whereas on the PC you go on ebay, buy a new Mobo for $40. -

2019-04-30 at 5:42 PM UTCseriously, I recommend you start getting into the things you want to do BEFORE you buy a new computer. what's the point of buying a computer with a high-end graphics card and/or CPU with a massive cache if you decide you really don't like rendering or video editing all that much?

see here is the issue, I'm dealing with people who know NOTHING about me but act as they know they "everything"
I have been doing video editing since 2008.
Video editing can mean anything, in my case it's home movies and the occasional AMV.
Also I have stated several times in this thread that I am not concerned with graphics and the point of my machine will be CODING and MAKING MUSIC.
I know exactly what I need and what I don't, which is exactly why I'm suggesting getting multiple computers so one can do the heavy lifting in the background while the other is reserved for general use, that why I will never experience lag.
I will be doing file archiving practically all the time, and video rendering every week so I this is necessary.
Now the real question is, would an i7 be enough that the lag wouldn't be that perceivable?
I recall the machine I built in 2013 that had an i7 was really damn fast, and I don't really remember if it slowed down while I was rendering videos or not.
This whole discussion is because I want to abandon windows and linux (which are vastly inferior platforms) and move to Mac OS.
I want a better operating system and user experience. -
2019-04-30 at 6:47 PM UTCOkay but if you're spending your tax return on this you should be getting the best bang for your buck. That's all we are saying, maybe we're all a bunch of broke cheapskates but if I was gonna spend that much money I would want to squeeze every last bit of value and power into the machine.
I'm not saying macs are worse in any way but you can't deny the fact that on a price for price basis you can get a faster computer for less money if it's PC.
But your heart is set on a Mac so it's not like anything we say will change your mind anyways lol. -
