Not just water. The fact you feel it means your pee already reached the water, and it's your pee and that water that's splashing out of the bowl.
Pee water. -

Pee water.
Exactly.
If you have a urinal, or a wall or a tree you can pee against it, and you feel no splashing. Or even if you pee onto grass.
But if you pee directly onto solid concrete the pee splashes everywhere, and you can even see it on your trousers.
Even though the amounts involved might be tiny, I'd rather just take precautions to ensure that I don't get pee on myself.
BTW ironically I broke my ankle going out to the garden to pee - I stood on a shovel. -

If you are tall, and your toilet is set low, there's more distance involved, the piss has to traverse farther, and so there is more resulting backsplash. You have to have a toilet which has been personalized to your specific needs. For example, a tall toilet for a short person, where the stream only travels a foot or so from dick to water.

not true, the same thing happen if you pee sitting or on the open urinal. blowback happens and you can always feel tiny, atomized droplets of pee landing back on you.
which is why when i pee in the ooen urinals i always stand about 3' away from it. the problem is that people look at me and point and laughed. -

2019-04-15 at 11:56 PM UTCThis is correct. One should crouch while urinating.
