Yeah, that sounds fucked up.
It means that the millionaires/billionaires get their extra grand a month, no tough decisions to make there.
The truly destitute have to decide between whatever welfare is and $1,000 a month.
And Yang's site EVEN SAYS ITSELF that one can't live on $1,000 a month.
If they were giving this "Universal Basic Income" to everyone, and keeping currently existing welfare programs, then that sounds reasonable.
But the way they word it on their website, that just sounds like positively spun PR. -

A much more fruitful demographic is those just above qualifying for typical benefits which stand to benefit from yangbux most. Wealthy people don't really give a fuck about $1K a month and that money isn't going to keep the truly destitute alive. The demographic that it helps is the working poor that scrambles to makes ends meet each month and those close, basically those who aren't building wealth month-to-month but instead treading water stand to benefit most from yangbux. I'm not sure it's the best policy, and Yang's foreign policy isn't clear which is the usual determinate of how I vote, but at least his UBI policy does seem like like it would do some good if he could actually make it happen.

The police are over-funded as it is, the US is a police state. It's THE Police State. Along with the military, a lot of things we put money into never really turns a profit for anyone outside those people working in those industries. Trillions of dollars wasted on stupid shit every year, and if we'd cut funding to a lot of that crap, it wouldn't hurt our military's capability at all, nor would it make the police's job any more difficult. As it is, there are literally obese cops everywhere, who sit in their air conditioned squad cars the majority of the time. They get out of the military rather than retiring, and that's one of the only jobs they seem to be able to do. It's easy, you get away with beating people up, shooting people, robbing them and all kinds of other shit normal people don't get away with. It is a ridiculous system.

So where is the money coming from?
