Basic income isn't the answer, killing off the (((system))) is.
This is basically true though. UBI is just "people are poor so let's print more money" with added steps. -
2019-03-23 at 10:16 PM UTCI haven’t really heard much about him so maybe this has been explained already

Realistically yangbux as currently formulated will never be politically viable, although it's not beyond the realm of possibility economically. -

2019-03-24 at 2:01 AM UTCAs someone kinda out of the loop on contemporary politics... can someone ELI5 to me how universal basic income works?
I mean, the money has to come from somewhere...
Does it mean less money goes to healthcare, police and other emergency services, etc?
Where is that national_population * 1000 dollars being diverted from? -
2019-03-24 at 2:24 AM UTCWoah, so according to yang2020.com:
Andrew proposes funding UBI by consolidating some welfare programs and implementing a Value-Added Tax (VAT) of 10%. Current welfare and social program beneficiaries would be given a choice between their current benefits or $1,000 cash unconditionally – most would prefer cash with no restriction.
A Value-Added Tax (VAT) is a tax on the production of goods or services a business produces. It is a fair tax and it makes it much harder for large corporations, who are experts at hiding profits and income, to avoid paying their fair share. A VAT is nothing new. 160 out of 193 countries in the world already have a Value-Added Tax or something similar, including all of Europe which has an average VAT of 20 percent.
So this would actually REPLACE welfare?
This does nothing for the truly down and trodden then...
The perpetually unemployed, mentally ill, drug/alcohol-addicted, disabled, etc, would actually only benefit marginally from this UBI, yet the richest billionaires in the nation would gain an additional $1000 a month?
Am I reading/interpreting this wrong?
This might benefit the upper-middle-lower class types (and anything higher than that), but if you're truly at the bottom of the barrel, this is a shit hand. -
2019-03-24 at 2:30 AM UTCIs there a Canadian equivalent being proposed?

Really.
Think of all the cunts in the big houses in the suburbs who would just spend it on video games and weed meanwhile people like me would use it all on food and necessities then have nothing left over for weed or video games -

Yeah, it doesn't sound like it's meant for those in true poverty, but more to appease the "DEY (AI-operated machines) TOOK OUR JERBS" types. -

not really 1k,
the proposed 10% VAT will take away 100 from the get go, then theres inflationary effects from peoplemwho thinks they can buy more now + the multiplier of that additional 10% VAT at every point of sales.
in the end you might get something like 500-600 of the promised 1k. if your lucky enough not to get less.
