Where is the line between being a junkie and not?
-
2019-02-25 at 6:36 PM UTCa junkie has a sort of look about them, a general desperate need for life that can't be quenched. there is a difference between partying, enjoying yourself - and sucking the life out an experience like a vampire. a junkie is always inwardly turned, and miserable.

Well, by golly, I’m gonna have to try it now. I’m striving to be just like hitler.
Hitler was prescribed methamphetamine in normal prescription amounts by his doctor. He was on a cocktail of drugs really.
Apparently the stress and lack of sleep from the meth really made him start to lose his temper. Supposedly he was very nice to his employees and shit before he started taking these drugs.
Not sure if this was before or after he almost got bombed but I know that made him lose his sanity pretty hard too. Hitler was falling apart by the end of the war. -

2019-03-03 at 3:10 AM UTCIt comes down to the ritual and how much effort you put into your use. Someone who drives across town in a snowstorm to get pills they immediately eat is more of a junkie than the guy who shoots heroin because he lives with a smack dealer. Actually, injection necessitates effort into use, it's rare a needle banger isn't a junkie but they're definitely out there and I've met them.
Basically anyone who is anything like semiazas is a junkie -

2019-03-03 at 4:22 AM UTCI had to go to rehab when I was 13/14 and had had like, two cigarettes, a couple shots, and smoked weed maybe a total of three times. No other drugs.
They thought it would scare me straight, hearing all of these awful stories, but actually I just found more dealers instead and started doing a fuckton more drugs once I got out and stopped having to drop. -

That's the problem with a lot of the fear mongering.
I totally get why parents, teachers, same-aged friends even, will become concerned at the first signs of drug use. But I've also seen excessive and over-the-top concern result in worsening drug use patterns.
I mean, I think a part of the reason I saw opiates as so benign at the time was because you hear about people "getting hooked after the first time"... Or "dying from one hit"... Etc.
Well, I didn't get hooked until about my 20th to 30th time using. And I certainly didn't die despite taking at-times heroic doses.
Heroin (and opiates more generally) is virtually benign to the body (at least, when factoring out impurities like fentanyl, or needle sharing, or mixing with other drugs, etc).
So when people make it out to be the most dangerous thing in the world, and then you go and do it a few times... maybe even a few dozen times... With no ill effects...
It makes you feel like either:
A) Everybody lied to you and it ain't so bad of a drug.
B) You're special and invincible.
Either way, it results in more usage. -

2019-03-03 at 5:30 AM UTCI think it was probably the around the SECOND package of syringes I bought, after smoking tar for a few months.
The first pack I could play off to myself as "I just want to try needles and see what the fus is about". But then when I kept doing it, I stopped lying to myself and basically admitted to myself that I was a junkie, but in THE FUNNIEST WAY.
The thing about it was, even though I wasn't in denial anymore, I had this great sense of humour about all of my self-destruction. My problems were kind of hilarious to me, and didn't matter at all, which was awesome to me at the time. -

2019-03-03 at 6:38 PM UTCWhen you go to score some crack with somebody and are no more than 5 or 10 minute drive from home yet they insist on pulling over in the most bait layby to have a pipe coz they just can't wait till they get home.
You know that one innit?

Holy shit, they make you pay for syringes?
I keep forgetting how progressive Canada is.
I got a literal garbage bag full of syringes and those little metal cups and those tiny water packs (etc) on my first visit to an injection site downtown (Vancouver). I never once had to reuse a needle, thankfully.

I used to say the stereotypical things like "I'm scared of needles" or "people who use needles seem pretty desperate and I'll never be like that", etc.
But after the first few times, it felt... Normal/rational.
Now, when I snort drugs (not opiates anymore, but other drugs from time to time), I can't help but think about how much I'm wasting on a reduced bioavailability.
That, and the whole INSTANT HIT thing... Fuck I miss that, not gonna lie. -
2019-03-04 at 10:30 AM UTCMaaan my area has lost a lot of people. Stay strong guys. There's people out here pulling for you that don't even know you. Remember that.

Yeah even when i was in the worst withdrawals of my life during the time i was addicted to fentanyl, i could have called up a guy, pawned some of my stuff and gotten heroin instead. But i didn't. There was one time in the couple of weeks it took me to get better, after like a week and a half or so, when i was having mostly PAWS, that i got a gram of coke to take the edge of, and i just paid for that out of pocket. I was never really impressed with coke but that night it certainly did the trick, it gave me the respite to follow on through to the end of it. -
