If you spam here I will get lanny to ban you because we are commie comrades. I found peterson after an upheaval in my life where I moved from where i considered home because of a girl and started getting way too high. I found joe rogan about the same time because I wasn't going out as much. I appreciate him because those canada cucks can get way too pussy and somebody needed to fuck the human rights tribunal with a big manly dick, which he did and made a following in the process.

I value what he says because I've been interested in psycho analysis for a long time and its a dead field. I've talked to people that have gone to uni for psychology and they say Carl Yung is never mentioned. I don't like freud but neither did Carl Yung and his work strikes a deep chord in me. Other books like hermann hesse that uses the Jungian archetypes just ring true to me and therefore I feel like they are true and represent how humans are made. Anyways he talks about shit like that and I think he's alright but other people think hes an idiot. I dont really know cuz I just watch youtube videos of him and don't read his books but I think he's alright, i know some people don't so please explain why you don't like him.

I did a bachelors degree in psychology.

Carl Jung is kinda mentioned in passing as part of the historical development of modern psychology, but he's given like maybe a couple paragraphs in a psych 101 textbook, and maybe a single multiple choice question on an exam.

I read quite a bit more into Jung simply out of personal interest. I mean, he's kinda batshit crazy, even moreso than Freud, but still kinda fascinating to read.

I have been kinda taking a superficial glance at some of Peterson's scholarly contributions regarding the construction of meaning, and, so far, it looks like it might be right up my alley.

Politically, though, I'm not touching that one with any length of pole. I'd just rather stay out of that.

But if you separate his academic thought from his political thought, I think he has a lot to offer.

You probably need to be more specific about which aspect of Peterson's thought you want to discuss, otherwise this is just going to be one big mess.

Psychology is a disreputable profession, and the more you learn about it the worse it seems.

Counseling and general life advice is where "psychologists" make their bread and butter, and Peterson is quite ok at that.

Yeah I know, "tidy your room, wash your penis" etc.

The only place where he falls down is by encouraging individualism to his core fans, young white men who feel unwanted by society.

And his whole "I can't do it" policy when asked to give his opinion on the JQ.

This is why we can't have nice things.

There's almost no point in even having any topical subforums.

I haven't read any of his academic work I've just watched some of his lectures on youtube. I just like that he talks about archtypes, when I read Man and His Symbols it gave me lucid dreams so i just like him alright and don't really know why people think he is so awful.

Yeah I'm pretty much in the exact same camp as you here.

Not a lot of people talk about archetypes in day-to-day discussions, and I suppose one reason is that it isn't exactly backed by empirical science or anything, but it's still good reading, as it can broaden one's horizons and inspire different modes of thinking.

He is clearly a very well-educated, well-read man. But of course people are only going to talk about his politics - and vilify him, and his non-political ideas, in the court of public opinion as a result.

Jung: how or what did you specially learn about jung to form your opinion of him being bat shit crazy?

I’m curious as to how you personally process human qualities and come to your conclusions.

Also, I’ve been curious for a bit now if you have ever been typed by a professional? Do you know your personality type? I would love to know what it is.

His theories are almost universally improvable for one thing.

Freud had some crazy ideas, like that we all essentially want to fuck our mothers, or that we get stuck in an "anal" or "oral" phase as toddlers because of some kind of fixation on these associated body parts.

However, Freud's ideas weren't all entirely removed from reality. His notion of the subconscious basically revolutionized psychology, and some of his defense mechanisms are taken seriously in empirical research to this day.

Jung, on the hand, incorporated all kinds of paranormal and occult phenomena into his theories. Freud was inherintly materialistic, whereas Jung went off the deep end and incorporated all kinds of things that we can't even begin to test empirically.

I know when I was a teenager I saw a clinical psychologist who administered some personality tests, but I can't remember much from that. I've done the Myers-Briggs test a bunch of times, but it's not the most scientifically sound test out there. I do consistently come out of it as INTJ, though, if I recall correctly.

Can you expound on your paranormal and occult phenomena comments.

We’re you taking any type of drug, prescribed or otherwise for any prolonged period of time when you took the Meyers Briggs assessments?

Well to start with, dream interpretation is essentially "occult", in the sense that it relies on interpretation of symbolism. No one single person can prove that their particular symbolic interpretation is any more accurate than any others'.

He also wrote a lot about alchemy. However, it could be seen as a literary interpretation, rather than a literal interpretation. He saw the alchemical process as essentially a metaphorical narrative that describes what we all go through in our personal life narratives.

He also wrote a lot about magic and other such occult phenomena.

I've taken it something like half a dozen times throughout my life, over the course of some ~15 years. So no.

It is actually a somewhat surprisingly reliable measure.
