I value what he says because I've been interested in psycho analysis for a long time and its a dead field. I've talked to people that have gone to uni for psychology and they say Carl Yung is never mentioned. I don't like freud but neither did Carl Yung and his work strikes a deep chord in me. Other books like hermann hesse that uses the Jungian archetypes just ring true to me and therefore I feel like they are true and represent how humans are made. Anyways he talks about shit like that and I think he's alright but other people think hes an idiot. I dont really know cuz I just watch youtube videos of him and don't read his books but I think he's alright, i know some people don't so please explain why you don't like him.

Carl Jung is kinda mentioned in passing as part of the historical development of modern psychology, but he's given like maybe a couple paragraphs in a psych 101 textbook, and maybe a single multiple choice question on an exam.
I read quite a bit more into Jung simply out of personal interest. I mean, he's kinda batshit crazy, even moreso than Freud, but still kinda fascinating to read.
I have been kinda taking a superficial glance at some of Peterson's scholarly contributions regarding the construction of meaning, and, so far, it looks like it might be right up my alley.
Politically, though, I'm not touching that one with any length of pole. I'd just rather stay out of that.
But if you separate his academic thought from his political thought, I think he has a lot to offer.
You probably need to be more specific about which aspect of Peterson's thought you want to discuss, otherwise this is just going to be one big mess.
Pretty much this. His politics is weird crypto-conservatism and he had to media whore pretty hard to become a household name, the whole pronouns law thing which launched his career was clearly publicity opportunism on his part.
Jung is cool but chiefly because he's batshit crazy and at least offers something more to think about than the billionth p-hacked study linking some self reported personality trait with something else like it means something.
The after-market motivational speech apparatus that produces garbage like "Jordan Peterson Explains Why You Can't Get An Erection (spoiler: it's because of progressivism)" makes me want to hurl. -
