This reason makes sense to me.
I can understand the motivation/rationale behind changing usernames here.
But, especially if one posts quite a lot, their personality and posting style are going to reveal who they are in the long run, which raises the question - what's the point?

Everyone knows who capt' and §m£ÂgØL are tho. They're not trying to "save face" under a different name, neither have made any real effort to hide who they are. I'm like 90% sure both just nixed their old accounts because they wanted to leave for a while.
See,
this is the case I'm trying to understand.
I can wrap my head around the need to reinvent yourself if you've made an ass of yourself.
But this scenario just doesn't make sense to me - unless,
maybe you forgot your password or something? But I can't fathom how someone could let that happen more than once, maybe twice in a lifetime, before you learn better ways of managing and remembering passwords.

Like nigga, HTS put a highlighter up her beautiful butt more than a decade ago and we all know this. I pretended to be a girl for a gazillion years. Both §m£ÂgØL and captain take the dick. There are no secrets in this godforsaken hellhole apparently, shit I wouldn't tell close friends or my romantic partner is common knowledge here. There is no hiding from family, particularly incestuous rapey internet family.
I've said some pretty cringeworthy things in my posting history, especially ~10 years ago, and I feel like if people took those posts at face value, I could get why people might judge me harshly.
But I like to think that a reasonable person is willing to consider the broader context and how far the person has come since then.
