The Cops will never stop searching for bank robbers.. even if they got away with 0 money in the attempt.
but I can have as much as 899.99 USD stolen before it becomes a Felony -

Surely you can understand that fraud isn't a violent crime usually unlike bank robbery that often leaves people distraught and ptsd'd and shit?

Like what if she were abducted and killed, or god forbid, sexually assaulted? What if she needed bone marrow, or an organ only you could provide? Are you detached enough that you wouldn't be bothered too much? Does not having to fulfill the role of father help keep distance? Would you go through pain and risky surgery to help save or extend her life?
