Minimum $10,000 so he can pay the host 10 years in advance, form a trust so you aren't personally legally responsible for the forum and the rest of the money goes to retainer for a lawyer that specializes in internet law.
Right now if Lanny gets sued he can get fucked hard because there is no barrier between him and the website (not unlikely to happen since you have a website with a racial slur registered in your name).
That's where Jeff Hunter, Zoklet and Idiosyncracy went wrong. They were liable for everything that happened on their websites and that's why they pulled the plug, they didn't want to go to prison.

Lol that's not how it works. Neither zok or jeff hunter were liable. The internet doesn't get treated like traditional publishers. Look at the Stratton Oakmont case.

Who's trying to push that? I don't like Facebook or Twitter but that would be a fucked up legal landmine that'd end up in even worse censoring than they've got now. I mean it kind of makes sense, but yeah it'd fuck the internet. Curation != publication, no matter how overzealously you feel a website is curating user content. There's gotta be a better solution.
