If you have to lie, find businesses that have closed recently. Toys R Us regional manager 2012-2018. There's nothing they can do to verify it other than test your knowledge

^ Put Bill Gates for a refrence. They won't be able to reach him to verify.

I'm preeeeeeety sure they have ways of verifying that these days.

Now, back like 10 years ago, you could totally get away with that.

I had a friend get a job with multiple fake references (and fake ID and fake social insurance number) for, umm... things we had planned.

This was back when burner phones were a thing.

How? It's not like there's some centralized system. I feel like if it doesn't work at once place, it'll probably work at the next. I mean I know there are companies that exist to verify such claims, but it can't possibly be very comprehensive. And I think usually how info gets on there is companies report on their findings from calling your references. So if you provide a reference that just doesn't show up on a search, how will they EVER verify it? It's not like Toys R Us has a list of all it's employees ever that anybody can access.

Actually, you're right in that there is a chance you'd get away with it.

The chance may even be fairly high.

But I don't know if I'd be willing to risk it these days. You google somebody's name and you get their Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc... It doesn't take a lot to track down who they know.

But it wasn't always like that.

Your plan could have worked easily a couple decades ago.

Nowadays, it could work, but I, personally, wouldn't wager on it.

    I don't even know.

Can you still get a burner phone?

I remember back in my "illegal activities" days, I would walk into a 7-11 and buy like 5 cell phones and then activate them from pay phones, so there was no connection to me (other than the video footage from the 7-11 cameras - but they only check that if you're killing people or something - which I never did).

Oh, well I don't have any of those lol.

I just fill in gaps in my employment history with self-employement. Which is true. Usually people are pretty impressed once I tell them I'm an author and that sort of erases any doubt, for some reason.

Good fuckin' idea. I'm applying for jorbs and don't want to use the reference for my last job becuas they hate me and I hate them. Technically I did work for my dad quite a bit. Not really, but I'll say I did.

Otherwise I was thinking of putting Medical reasons.

If your Dad has a business, and you're in good standing with him, you should definitely use that.

Medical reasons is a typical copout and unless you're obviously crippled they're probably going to know deep down you're bullshitting even if they don't say anything about it.

Yeah, I don't have much experience applying for jobs I actually want that I won't automatically get. He farms, so I don't know how well that'll translate into the service industry, but I mean I've cashiered before too. What do you think about "Focusing on college" as an excuse? I'm gonna use the farm experience instead, but technically both are true. Maybe I'll say part time for each, which is also technically true. Yeah, I'll do that.

I'm applying for a Spectral position at Macy's at the mall. They're hiring seasonal LP. That might be a bit easier to ease into than a sale's associate job at MOA. I'm not really ready to be that smiley yet. Maybe Underarmour.
