Originally posted by Misguided Russian Well, if you mean grammar and pronunciation, then yeah. But then a LOT of languages have crossover. For example I have good pronunciation in spanish and Portuguese because I speak Russian. The grammar of these languages is also easier to understand thanks to Russian. But they're unrelated languages completely.
I am fluent in 3 languages btw.
i thought they're all related to latin. -
2018-11-29 at 4:12 AM UTCTypo. The point remains the same. One meaning, two characters, three completely different words.

All these Slavic languages have the same root. I mean Ukrainian would probably be the better choice if I'm purely going off what will make learning other languages easier, but I'm not. I'm talking about Russian and only Russian, and it has a lot of crossover with other Slavic languages. Google says Ukrainian is about 40% different from Russian.
Я б хотів би тобі гамбургер (YA by khotel, chtoby gamburger)
Я бы хотел, чтобы гамбургер (YA b khotiv by tobi hamburher)
Get out of here with these Russian to romance language comparisons. You're being overly defensive of your language for a silly point. If I call Russian unique, will you unbunch your panties?
And Hebrew. Not like those jedis from outside of Israel that read the old testament in a terrible accent and claim to speak it, but modern Israeli Hebrew.
Im not being defensive about Russian language. I just know a lot of people from all over the Russian world, and I have heard on the internet a lot that the Russian/ Ukrainian/ Belorussian languages are very similar. But, when I have 3 Ukrainians speaking their language next to me, I only understand the very basic, simple words. Things like I, you, this, there, etc. When they're talking about other stuff I cannot understand them at all. There is a lot of similarity in some words but not at all in others. I think it has to do with which words were introduced into the language at what time, and for what reason. Keep in mind that spoken language is a living thing. In the book you will read "I have a car", on the street you might hear "I have a ride (or some other slang term for car)", and maybe the proper word "car" might be the same (borrowed from a western language?), but the slang terms might be completely different. -
2018-11-29 at 5:31 AM UTClol @ 'the Russian world'
But I think most languages that are similar are like this. Fuck, in China people from Harbin (up north) can't even understand people from the Guandong area down south. And they speak the same language, with the same characters. Chinese dialects are crazy like that. There's actually a market for Chinese to Chinese translators there lol.
But whatever. I don't need to worry about that. I'm just picking one or two languages to start studying. Going to buy some workbooks. For Russian I may take a formal class. I just wanna get the foundations of major regions, you know? If I learn basic Russian, it makes it much easier for me to meet other slavs and maybe learn something from them. Has been very easy for me to do this with Portuguese and Italian. I don't remember shit anymore, but it gets you further quicker to have a base upon which you can build. Who knows when I'll be working with an Indian, or Polish dude, or someone from Morocco?
Knowing something is always better than not. And plus speaking somebody's native language is awesome. It makes them happy as fuck when you show interest in wanting to learn about their language and culture. I got a level 1 fat stalker this way because she thought I was hitting on her everyday when I just wanted to learn more about the Philippines lol

I can't even talk to you. It's like you go off on some different tangent every time and completely miss the mark on my posts.
I was not bragging. The only one I knew before googling was gou and inu for 狗
I was specifically stating that it was difficult for me to learn Japanese, because my Chinese was not good enough. Let's look at the direct fucking quote yeahI tried learning japanese but the difference in hanzi is waaaay too fucking confusing for my level of Chinese.
Now shut the fuck up benny. This is a sacred place. My Chinese is still better than yours. I've caught you trying to pass off obvious google translate errors as chinese you wrote. All you do is google for a response every time I post Chinese. -

Shit I even know Africans and Afghans who speak perfect Russian, since the Russian world extended well beyond the traditional borders of the Soviet Union in various ways. -

chinese dont say they eat dogs, big or little. they say they eat dog meat. -
2018-11-29 at 6:06 AM UTCI don't post google translate. I only look up characters and form the structure myself. Usually I use Pleco unless I need to translate into English. Or I'm mashing my auto predict.
This is what someone sounds like when they're learning a language m8. My vocabulary is limited, but Chinese people understand me in person just fine. I can get around and ask for directions, talk about food, family, weather, time, money, etc. All my sentences are like 8 words max.
Don't know what the fuck your chinglish is. Looks like nonsense vietnamese pronunciations. At least use pinyin if you won't use characters. -

eggzazerated, anyway, stop bragging about like your a master of chinese language, its painful to watch. and just because people could understand you doesnt mean you've mastered, or have a command of their language.
