We oldsters have been there, done that, heard that, said that and now sit back and laugh our ass off at all of you trying to sound intelligent and important.

Speak up!
The only rational explanation would be either to prevent a secondary infection (which is unlikely) or your doc wasn't certain that it was viral. -

That'd be a good reason.
I'm pretty sure that I've had pleurisy more than a few times, but I've never seen a doctor about it since it usually resolves after a few days on it's own. The symptoms fit. -
2018-11-17 at 1:04 AM UTCIve had an adrenalectomy?
Have you? -
2018-11-17 at 1:31 AM UTCAn adrenalectomy has nothing to do with your lungs, or making your lung more susceptible to a bacterial infection.
You throw out medical shit you don’t know anything about, trying to get sympathy/attention. Pleurisy is nothing. Drink some fluids, no one cares about your medical ailments you use for attention.
Tell me someone in your family gives you attention lady, this can’t be your only place to get attention! -

Shatup! You have TDS! There is a cure but you have to admit you have a problem first. Fix yourself first.
