Yeah I'm kinda halfway into that mode. In fact, I will be branching out into freelance consulting pretty damn soon.

I am in my early-mid 50s. I have never- ever been on Welfare nor Foodstamp/EBS in my life. and my broke ass was homeless for 3 years solid.

I have collected my Unemployment for several months during harder times. but only twice in my entire life. Once in my 40s and once in my 20s.

I tried to get Social Security benefits to help out but they said I didn't qualify for such and such year, when I knew I worked those years. (A solid 5 out of 10 years is required of being fully employed before getting either SSI or SSD?).. this is related to the blacklisting.. because oddly it was during a time when I believe Jeff (Who then had suggested to go to a temp service in Walnut Creek called Madsen Personnel which I appreciated him for.. then turned into, I'v helped you in the past. If you don't stop bothering me.. I will make sure you never ever work again" and me replying something like "Oh.. like in Hollywood"

I see things that relate. Sure I shouldn't of been a smart ass to him, but I didn't like his threat. it's a huge fucking conflict of interest and though it may seem funny to say this, it is kind of a form of trade violations. it somehow falls into this. Not specifically "Inside Trading" but "Anti-Trust" law.

Of course I'm just an average Joe.. and Jeff is clearly more powerful than the neighborhood computer nerd-club president.

So I found a paystub for the month of a year the lady at the SS department stated I didn't work that year.

proved her wrong. never heard back about it. didn't go back to trying to collect either form of SocSec

That's... quite a detailed story, and yet I read every word.

I'd try pushing even harder with that bit of evidence you managed to find. Forward the paystub to someone at a higher level of command. You never know...

Or maybe something along the lines of Heidegger's work. I took a class focusing on Heidegger's Being and Time and holy fuck did that course ever fuck me up.

And bruh, if you ever want any advice on how to effectively teach yourself to program, come to me. I learned so much through sheer trial and error.

My first bit of advice that I always give anyone setting out to learn programming themselves, is start with Python. It is as close to executable pseudocode as you can get, and yet it has all the bells and whistles.

That being said, another very useful learning technique is to do the complete opposite (as well as, not instead of, the above), and to play around in assembly / machine language. It really forces you to understand how all the higher-level programming languages (like Python) are ultimately translated into hardware-understandable code.

Damn, I didn't think minors would delve far into Heidegger like that, he's a beast of a philosopher and a whole semester with him is a lot. I myself had the opportunity to spend a semester doing a close reading of B&T about a year ago; what a read it was! At first, I thought he was just an incomprehensible Nazi, but by the time I was done, I wanted to spend another semester digging through his work independently.

I'm coming around to the idea of programming as a very marketable skill and one that employs some of the more abstract thinking that comes with what we've studied. I'll probably hit you up for direction at some point in the not-too-distant future when I start learning for direction. Thanks!

Well, I was a precocious student, so I took a lot of upper-level classes even though I didn't necessarily have to.

The label of incomprehensible Nazi is not an uncommon one for him. The guy was a tad bonkers, to say the least, but he really had some unique ways of seeing the world (or, should I say, Being-in-the-world as such).

Certainly worth the time to give his ideas a chance.

You don't necessarily have to like his politics to find beauty in his philosophy.

You're exactly right on both counts.

It is a very marketable skill.

And the systematic/logical/rational thinking you use in philosophy is excellent preparation for learning programming.

No money. i maxed out my card being half homeless and half place to kick it.

I took this from the Berkeley Hills. which is a low lined mountain range but we call it Hills out here because of the Sierras and Cascades are way higher. Showing Cal's campus over Gaylee road and you can even see the Ocean on clear days like this.. that's the Golden Gate Bridge and SF with the ocean behind it.

Hey totse are you actually homeless? Tell us about your living situation.

I find this sad because you are so nice and so mentally ill. You don't deserve to be on the streets man.

Not full homeless yet. I'm allowed to stay at this friends for now. it started when I asked to use it as a DMV dropoff address

we developed a relationship. I don't live free.. I pay money but without this job I won't burden myself on her. and there are two old friends from school out in a town of El Cerrito which i have some clothes and blankets at (when I lived out of my Truck then Honda Van.

but they're stoners. i can't deal with this shit at this age in my life. Good guys just always arguing. 50 year olds living in one of their mom's basement apartment.

I just want a Job and force myself to learn coding. I swear I can't find that starting point. I got up to 90 percent of the way on projects and gave up over and over. its part of my problem. trying to follow through. I keep my donations simple (like money to charity when I have it) but I can't commit to all day shit. not because I'm shallow or lazy I just can't keep at something. the only thing I ever feel comfortable is this addiction to typing.

I need to find a data entry job that pays well.

Weird, I was looking up old photos from Berkeley.. i think this might be Berkeley Hills before the actual Campus was built (It's called mapping out Berkeley Campus) a photo from the 1800s.. same place?

    Same general place?

I don't want to do this kind of work ever again. I used to do this in my youth. I was an undergound cable lineman and would drive one of those small scoups (bobcat) tearing up tarmac and shit. then laying the pipe and lifting the large cable spools and all that crap. I'v done work inside homes. it's how I found out how fucking allergic I was to drywall. I know they use rockwall now but it has the same basic shit in it. Chinese made asbestos and sulfer shit.

    I've done roofing.

I mean if you can get me an apprentice union entry-level (B to A-card) Job as an ironworker? I'm down. (only a million and one applicants trying to get in). Wont happen.. not at my age.

I could drive Muni prolly. but they would give me the 8X line. all new drivers I'm told get the "Axe" line. From Fishermans Wharf through Chinatown all the way down third and hunters point.. late at night. that's gotta be a lot of fun. (driver told me this.. but he was laughing.. prolly wouldn't happen). That's a long fucking round trip.

lets see.. get spit on, maybe acid thrown in my face driving the shittiest route on Muni for 19 bucks an hour vs being in an office environment with ladies for about the same amount!

    hmmmm
