Hey op, can you finally change my user name title to something more cooler like monster vagina destroyer with longevity incarceration or bubble gum bubble yum those lips? I will pay by bitcoin or PayPal. Please don’t be pricey. You’ve done it for one Dher already. Please make another exception, just this one tyme. Thanks.
I’ve made over 2000 posts and still no changes. Give me some form of recognition dammit. I’ve been here for a while now.
Sorry.

Without my telecommute option I'd be losing my shit. I need that home-office.
Have you been following the Lanetix labor dispute at all? Personally I'm glad to see programmers start to organize around labor issues, I hope we see more of it in the future. I think a lot of developers kind of have this pride thing where they're like "I'm hot shit so I can negotiate my own contract, like a star athlete" or something and we've failed to take the notion of collective bargaining serious, even though it's widely acknowledged that many developers work in really abusive death-march style environments.

I'm guilty of that kind of thinking.
I can't help but feel (delusionally or not) that I'm just that damn good at what I do that I don't need a union.
But you're totally right that, once the developer ego issue can be put aside, a developers union actually makes a LOT of sense.

I've definitely been guilty too in the past. The culture is such that if you're perceived to perform well and the money's coming in you can get away with a lot so it's easy to think of yourself as above the need for collective bargaining. But when things get tighter that freedom turns into you being expected to clean up when things go awry and pick up the slack on demanding schedules. Things have been sweet for a number of years now but it's important to remember tech has had booms and busts plenty in the past.

Don't die, Lanny. Start wearing a respirator/gas mask.

OMG! HTS-senpai showed concern for me! I'm so fucking happy right now. Don't worry girl, you're my reason to keep breathing and as long as you're around I won't ever stop
