As someone who consumes manual labor but doesn't engage in it, like most of the middle class these days, cheap labor is naturally beneficial to me. And for better or worse, it's beneficial to the economy in general to have commoditized manual labor.
As to the slavery analogy, I think every competent human has a right to live where they an fulfill a social role, it has nothing to do with their utility. I'm simply observing that if I was actually interested in choosing my countrymen on the grounds of what was beneficial to me or my state (which is presumably the premise on which you'd argue for disallowing immigration), I'd chose immigrant mexicans and central americans over over PHM any day of the week. -

Right now there might be a surplus of arms and munitions but that'd only last for a while, even without a war to fight in.
And china could gain a lot, taking a country doesn't mean exterminating the populace so they'd keep their market, gain a large, wealthy, taxbase and most importantly close a debt that'll never be paid anyway.
Only thing stopping this is mutual defence(for eu countries/nato) and nukes, us has enough to decimate the world near enough and destroy any country that mounts a force against it, but it costs to keep them operational, and with these talks about pulling out of the non-proliferation treaty then it's going to cost a lot lot more.
if china wants to attack america all it would need to just stop all export to the US.
there'd be riots overnight. america would self-destruct from within in matters of months. -
