those instructions were designed in a way that will make you snap your chains so that you will have to buy more chains.

I’ve never seen a chain break. Although,I’ve never lumberjacked before. I’ve probably cut down about 100 trees and been around tree cutting since a wee lad and have never seen or heard of a chain breaking.
I’ve seen some bars get bent and saw a guy catch a saw in the face from a kick back (he was cutting from the tip)
I usually buy chains at harbor freight and I’m positive they are cheap chines ones. I used to use the stihl ones,so maybe that’s why I never had one break. The cheap ones go dull faster,but I got tired of sharpening blades.
