I don't think that would work so well for me. Something about hitting the keys with my own fingers seems to commit the words to memory much better than if I were to dictate. Still, this could well be a personal preference. I'm sure plenty of people do better speaking their thoughts aloud.

Originally posted by Zanick I do it in my head just fine, but writing it out somewhere is helpful. You can configure your syntax mentally for a few sentences but when it gets to be a paragraph or longer, you're going to run into trouble. There's nothing pretentious about having a process to help with that, and it's far from the only benefit. Sometimes I record something to give me a snapshot of a mental state at a particular time that I can refer back to. Sometimes I dig through my journal and feel as though a different person wrote some of the entries. It's extremely valuable to think of where I am in relation to where I used to be.

    i see.

    so your still growing.

i know how you feel, sometimes i look back at my old posts and try to remember what kind of mental derangement that had caused me to type what i typed and tried to re-live those episodes.

Exactly! Imagine if you could do that with a lot of your thoughts and feelings, instead of just what you write on some forum. It'd give you new perspective on who you are, and with some thought, who you could be.

That's not something I can answer for you. If I must point you in a direction, I'd say you should write down who you have been so far, read it like a story and then decide what the main character should do next.

thats what i was talking about.

you are what you are. if you needed conscious effort to be who you want to be, isnt that pretending ?
The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire!

    No.

Pretty sure that would be "growing".

If you think that pretending is the mechanism that allows people to achieve internal change, then sure, but I'm not sure I agree with that. For instance, you might wake up tomorrow and decide that you will take concrete steps toward being happier, and nobody would call you a pretender for doing so. I'm not sure I follow your thought process.

It is always very wise to keep a contempraneous (sp) record.

My friend and attorney offered me this morsel of advice many, many years ago.

One of mine became the centerpiece of my winning lawsuit against the US federal government.

idk, being happy or not doesnt define you or your identity.

when you said 'be who you could be' i assume your reffering to identity or character.
