2018-09-22 at 4:44 PM UTC"oh something worth $100? I'll give you $15"
jedi tricks, all that is. -
2018-09-22 at 6:03 PM UTCthat's how they make a fat profit. and yes they do suck. If you want what you have is worth never go to a pawnshop.
-
2018-09-22 at 6:15 PM UTCLol why do THEY suck? They're offering a service for people who are desperate. It's not like you HAVE to accept their offer. If you have options, dont be retarded and don't pawn shit off when you know you're gonna get a poor value.
There's no trick involved. If you can sell your thing for more, then sell it for more. If you can't, then you pawn it. That's not magic. -
2018-09-22 at 6:17 PM UTCThe only thing I ever sold to a pawn shop was a piece of shit revolver with terrible timing issues. That shit was just straight up unsafe.
I lost some money on it, but it was not worth more than $5 by the time I brought it into the pawn shop. I got $150 for it even though it is not fit for any shooting whatsoever. -
2018-09-22 at 6:30 PM UTCYeah they suck.
-
2018-09-22 at 6:31 PM UTCI resemble that remark!
Nyuk-nyuk! -
2018-09-22 at 6:32 PM UTCI sold a pair of small really mediocre binoculars that I think they gave out to people at my moms work, it was just sitting up there in the cupbard still in the box...got $10 :icon14:

2018-09-22 at 6:33 PM UTCNow the carnival games, those are more "jediwy." they're attempting to deceive, but even then you have to be a functional retard to not know that.
I am curious, what would happen if there weren't pawn shops. Would people steal LESS? Or how would that affect things? Hmmmm m. -

that's just it. they make a profit off people in desperate situations. that makes them nice? no. it makes them a fat profit.
it's like if your paycheck was shorted and you have to wait for your money but your lights are due. or you've been injured and you didn't get to work as many hours as you normally do. and I didn't say there was a trick involved.
they suck. -

You should open a pawn shop where you pay people the exact value of something and make no profit for yourself, because you're a good person and you don't want to take advantage of people in their hard times.
And OP said 'jedi trickery.' -

I understand they need to make a profit to stay in business. and I didn't say they should give you the exact value for what you have. but if what you have is worth $500.00 and you are seriously injured and you missed some work $25.00 is not a fair or reasonable price for something worth $500.00.
I also understand it depends on the demand for what you have can make a difference too.
they literally take advantage of people in desperate situations. It's better to come out of the pawnshop with at least enough to make a payment on whatever is due (say your lights) so you either take the money and make a payment on what ever is due or off goes your lights.
you know someone that runs a pawnshop? -

Funny enough I do have a cousin who runs a pawn shop in CO but I haven't talked to him in many years, I'm not like, defending pawn shops because of some family ties or whatever.
I don't disagree that in essence, they end up taking advantage of people in desperate spots, very similar to payday loans. It's a double edged sword because the person in desperate need for money is either gonna get a little bit of money for a shitty value, or they don't use the pawn shop and get no money at all.
At the end of the day, people are gonna wind up tight on cash for any number of reasons, and there's always gonna be a need for these types of places to exist. So while we can say they're taking advantage of people, those very people know it.
Is it any different than McDonald's taking advantage of people on a tight budget and offering dollar menu trash as if to suggest they're getting a good deal? A person could buy hamburger and make 5x as many burgers on their own but McDonald's does it for you and takes advantage of your laziness. I think that's just..economics. -
2018-09-22 at 7:41 PM UTCLke MQ said they offer a service, I have shit credit and and can't even get a payday loan cuz it's for me hard to prove income, I'd rather the option for shitty high interest loans were there than not. "exploitative" always comes up but thats the whole of fucking society, if you need to work you're being exploited by somebody it's called capitalism.

2018-09-22 at 7:49 PM UTCI think they suck too, but it's like they say, you play, you pay.. The trick is to buy your shit back in time, most folks don't, and they end up with their sack in a vise...

I understand what you're saying. I only agree in part. I agree with what you're saying about McDonalds. people know what they're getting. but they can go somewhere else.
people in desperate situations know what they're getting too but they're choices are limited (unlike eating at McDonalds) to either take the money or have their lights turned off.
people that run pawnshops know people in desperate situations don't go to pawnshops and get chump change for something of value unless they really need the money or it doesn't matter what they get for it. so they are taking advantage of people in desperate situations. I guess it depends how you want to look at it.
I kinda figured you may know someone with a pawnshop. my intention wasn't to offend your cousin. -

Do you think pawn shops might actually enable people to not work as hard?
Im legitimately curious how things would be affected if there was simply no more such thing as pawnshops and payday loans. -
2018-09-22 at 7:54 PM UTCAnd it's all good. No offense taken whatsoever m8.

2018-09-22 at 7:56 PM UTCHomie I know people in Los Angeles that run pawn shops and they are some of the most crooked people I ever met.
Like Broker Charlie for example (you can look him up in the Hollywood area around Farifax) he is known for really sketch deals. -
