Many of the users moved out here were from Austin (tech) or former MIT graduates out of the east coast. Though many lived in the Bay Area, the big tech schools were in Texas and Ma and Ohio at the time.. now they're all over the bay area. Degree Mills in the latest tech movement.
So it wasn't just East Bay.. it's just this was their breeding ground for what was trying to be an answer to a world wide web, before 1992-93 when html was written and broadband came over cable and dsl rather than a T-1 or T-3 or ISDN line of the dialup days. which only the fucking server had the money for. only companies and colleges enjoyed early broadband.
just throwing that out there. Austin is an early tech hub, but it is just now taking off. another would be Atlanta Ga, where AT&T and the future of communications is being advanced. -
