   Hardware support is pretty good in 2018, at least commodity hardware. some gay 80 function gaymen mouse/dildo might not work but then you're a scrub if you use that anyway.
   
   If "normal people" wanting to use something means never editing a text file, never opening a terminal, and never building from source then traditional linux systems are not for "normal people". Some distros are fairly successful in trying to paint over this but I'm pretty skeptical of the value in trying to ape the dominant proprietary paradigm. The text based shell is not some vestigial feature that's meant to be hidden behind layers of skeuomorphic menus, it has both philosophical and practical design advantages. You might think no mere mortal could ever learn how to use it but is it really all that more complex than memorizing contemporary (and wildly inconsistent) iconography or keyboard shortcuts? I'd argue it's much simpler, although there are certainly discoverability issues. As long as people learn to use WIMP descended interface families the CLI is always going to look either incomprehensible or like a paradigm shift, but the reality is that it's little more than a cultural bias.

Funny that a simple mouse connecting with rs232 works automatically on the same hardware setup in windows 98 and windows 2000.    *hurr its better because its broken out of the box and has poor software support* good thing I saved 85 dollars by not buying an authentic Microsoft Windows 10 license! oops now I have to replace my mouse and my actual window.. good thing I saved all that money by choosing an inferior OS made by genuses for genuses.
