Sure, most of my day I feel like I'm a totally autonomous free agent. Trained dogs probably have no perception that they're domesticated. I'd argue that it's inherent in the ideas of socialization and indoctrination that you don't have a conscious awareness of the ways in which you are controlled. The space of ways of being which are denied to us by social forces aren't at all obvious unless we sit down and really try to think about it. The fact that we don't feel like we're being controlled says next to nothing about the reality of the matter and indeed if we attempt to impartially examine how much control is exerted over us we find it's quite extensive. -

It's not like I knew what was happening.
Besides, the world needs more people like me.
In fact I hope my sperm gets confused with that of some blonde PhD athlete and injected into a bunch of sloots. -

So Lanster,
If I go till the day I die being oblivious and believing that I’m in control of my own life, who am I hurting?
I still feel fully in control of my own life and probably always will. Just who I am. I’ll let the intellectuals do all the thinking about the loss of control society presents us with. Deal??? -

this attitude being widespread is the reason power structures able to enforce their will - as long as life is comfortable, people don't want to see the awful things behind the curtain.
it doesn't mean they aren't there though. -

You see it differently than I do Aldra, and that’s ok. I see enough tragedy in people’s lives on a daily basis. I see the agony and suffering that people have to endure. If that’s all I chose to worry my little head about, then that’s my choice. I’ll deal with that very tangible suffering.
I do find it hard to believe that me feeling in control of my life hurts anyone. I’ll just remain oblivious I guess! -

I understand how you feel because most people I know feel the same, and honestly, regardless of opinion there's not a lot any of us can do about it at this point.
The only reason we're able to live like this, though, is because other people are progressively more exploited further down the supply chain -

Delving into that, to follow the money and control, IS probably too much for me. Some may think I’m weak minded for not educating myself on these very real aspects of life, I just chose to live my life the best way I know how, which includes being good to those I come in contact with. I do not have it in me to deliberately hurt anyone. I just try to let carma take care of the rest.
I screwed that quote up, lol! -
