Ever been in a conference room?
    Own a television?
    Gone to school?
    Own a smartphone?
Stared at any screen period in an audience?
Then you have done exactly what those reporters are doing in that pic, the only difference is they're completely immersed.

lol I remember seeing the original back in 2008 or 2009 I wonder if the person who made it knew that VR was going to be a commercial thing in a few years or if that was just about techno-society in general causing people to lose touch with reality and others

That's me basically though except an inflatable mattress and a cleaner room

it's funny how he's sitting there in a dirty and depressing looking room while staring at rainbows and green grass in VR

people back then who saw the original if you could send this back in time to them they would be like "wtf why are there two tiny little screens side by side on the laptop"

Are you thinking of this one?

    The two are pretty similar.

2014 and 2015 I was in my room wearing only my pantsu
walls were dirty and hadn't been cleaned in decades
only a mattress on the floor
50 inch tv in front of it
    hardly any furniture
    lamp stopped working
I was sitting in that space wearing my Rift, vaporize tube in mouth, living in bliss while my physical self was surrounded by shambles
It was basically just like that photo, I wish I would have taken a photo of myself.

The author nailed down the future pretty well except he missed a few things

    - the HMD would be completely wireless and will either run off a battery or use wireless charging
    - white people and males don't exist anymore (should replace that with a transgender eurasian-negroid)
    - no one owns private rooms, should have put xir on a bunkbed with xier roommates
    - clothing is deemed problematic, should have made xir nude instead
    - xir isn't smiling enough! SMILE! A frown is not allowed in our happy and united socialist utopia!

the oculus website is full of so much nauseating propaganda
nigger women everywhere, the video that loops is nothing but nigger shit, no people depicted on the website that actually reflect the types that would be drawn to VR and gaming

oh and when you go to apps/experiences in the top three apps first shown is a goddamn fucking anne frank house app ....

    I hope someone murders zuckerberg

Those were the golden days of VR, a time when it was truly user driven and independent, a time which will never come again sadly.
The moment there were articles that the hooked nosed kike reptilian was walking through the offices of Oculus VR, everyone knew it was over.
I'll stick with Oculus in spite of all that because the early days are still near and dear to me, no kike can take that away from me.

didn't this device exist at MIT and places like Berkeley in the 1980s or 1990s? where you stood on this thing that looked like a treadmill but in a circle and you walked on it so you wouldn't walk into shit. I recall something like this and seeing people playing it. you had something mounted on your arm as well as the glasses.

it's just technology finally reach affordability and now the processor speeds are high enough on off the shelf products to have a go at it at home. but what about the stand that keeps you in place while you feel like you're actually walking.. without walking into walls in your bedroom.

Augmented Reality is better. you can go outside, part of the view is the real world (using the camera and synce to real view distance) and part is objects running in front of you. I see this not far off.. shitloads of idiots running around in parks and jumping up and down and sideways running from Mario and Luigi gonna rape you (mod) that someone programs and other members running after you down market street in san francisco.. first one who finds augmented Lamy and rapes him first before getting raped by augmented characters is the winner

Virtual Reality was originally developed by the military in the 60s, but that tech is different from what is used in modern VR hmds.

Better, it's a holodeck simulation. Just step into this room with the big door over here.

    no it's not

with VR you can psychologically enter a virtual world
with AR the ugly fleshnet is supplemented with facebook and amazon notifications

the only thing AR would be good for is having a floating virtual screen and tomogatchis

    1. FB literally does control the whole ecosystem through firmware and distribution.
    2. We were all sucking Carmack's dick when the project started, you're not hip, you're a gaylord
    3. "not picky" means you put up with a shitty subpar experience that costs more than buying a decent display. That's the definition of being a pleb, pleb.
    4. The last thing you need in your life is more social isolation and a giant set of space age looking goggles strapped to your face screaming "anti-social loser".
    5. Actually, you know what, enjoy killing yourself in order to experience shitty premature technology. I don't know why I'm trying to convince you not to waste your money. Just go for it bud.

there is nothing stopping you from using an external launcher for VR programs

literally if you want you never have to submit to Oculus or facebook
if you want the Rift can just be used as an HMD to experience content rather than a console

I have to experience this.. does any phone work?

I have an LG stylist type. 3 I think.

just find a template and make a cardboard cutout before actually buying one? do you download it. is it free. or is it just a live stream in 3D on your phone like stereo optics.

Are you talking about google cardboard?
You'll need a fairly modern phone for that, nothing before the year 2015.
If you're talking about Oculus Go, you don't need a phone since the computer part is embedded.
