Back in the '60's and before, it was lawful to beat your wife. Your wife wasn't considered a person, really, more like the man's personal property. yeah when i was in my wife beating class a guy brought this up but mentioned it being the 50's
I asked my older friend about this and he said if you beat your wyfe the cops would probably come but at least ask "what did she do?" and or tell you to go sleep your drunk off.
