This is what I was getting at, yeah. I mean it happens eventually, but if kids seem crazy at games that's not why. 14 yearold Johnny is not kicking your ass at CoD because his developing brain reacts so much faster than yours, he's kicking your ass because he plays 4+ hours a day, every day, and takes it way more seriously than you probably do.

Now with algorithms recommending normie plebeians anything from boku no pico to noise music, the appeal is gone and the feeling that those things belonged to you and your circle has diminished.
Is there any way to get around this in this day and age?

No, elitism will always be around.

Well I like books, and when other people like the same books as me it either sends me into a jealous rage because it makes me feel less special or I'm like cool we like the same stuff.

User was banned for saying the taboo phrase "book"!

The "underground culture" that people remember so fondly is actually almost always the death spiral of an actual insular subculture. That's what the glory days of totse and 4chan were, communities that were small and boring ballooning and in that instant between being a backwaters and being inducted into general relevance people think it's an amazing thing the normies are killing. You're the normie that killed it and it sucked dick on either side of it's particular eternal september.

It's like the `ls -l` output where the first dash means it's a regular file, as opposed to 'd' for directory.
