Why has Trump avoided the "Opioid Crisis"
-
2018-08-02 at 7:52 PM UTCPeople just wanna sue the Rx companies 👎
-
2018-08-03 at 8:21 AM UTCThe only crisis is that opium isn't being made in our country. BUY AMERICAN, HIRE AMERICAN.
-
2018-08-03 at 9:18 AM UTCbecause it is a mere symptom of our deeply sick society

2018-08-03 at 12:35 PM UTCLet the weak addicts die...it's a great policy...another Trump and Taxpayer win.
-
2018-08-03 at 12:37 PM UTCThe answer is obvious. Big Pharma doesn't want him to. And they motivate him strongly ($$$) to avoid the issue. Secondly, only Congress can enact laws to combat the issue... the President has limited power as he can only issue executive orders.

2018-08-03 at 12:39 PM UTCWho gives a fuck about the opioid crisis? Users are well aware of the risks of what they do, some of them happen to die sometimes
Fucking leave it alone. Tightening restrictions to pain meds is only going to hurt those that legitimately need them, those that are using recreationally will just switch to heroin and the death rate increases further -

You make a really good point there cupo. I was really starting to doubt if pharmaceutical industry had the best interests of consumers at heart, or might do something to keep opioids overprescribed in their primary market, what with their lengthy track record bribery, lying to the public, investors, and regulators, and generally shady business practices. But your totally unverifiable but impassioned anecdote really changed my mind. I mean who could believe those nasty stats about lobbyist spending and opiate prescription rates when you have a nice story from some internet person, right? -

Many cases of addiction start because we overprescribe opiates in the US. While there's no doubt that recreational use would remain after bringing US protocols in line with the rest of the industrialized world, we could at least expect a lower rate of new addictions and consequently per-capita death and loss of economic productivity from opiate use. -

People almost always get addicted to drugs because their life sucks in some way or other. It's probably not a coincidence that drug use is highest amongst the poor, the uneducated, the socially marginalised, those who live in shithole areas, and other people who have had a rough break in life.
Some psychologists have even suggested that there is no such thing as alcoholism, or even addiction at large, it's just a coping mechanism and a way of trying to find a sense of self and a unique sense of importance.
Social programs to address people's root causes of their unhappiness is a sensible approach to reducing addiction and reducing overdose deaths.
This is even more important as opiates is mostly a problem amongst whites, who are the most valuable people to a state. -

yeah, multiple animal studies have demonstrated that they will cease drug use (even going through withdrawal) if it interferes with their social life or sex drive.
people typically get into habitual drug use because they find no happiness, satisfaction or purpose in their day-to-day life - large-scale addiction is just a symptom of a sick society -

That's just what opioid addicts tell people to shift blame
They don't talk about the part where they took six of them to "find out what all the fuss is about" and then got addicted to the high
I would know, this is how my opioid addiction started -

From a policy perspective, whatever story you want to tell about who's to be blamed doesn't matter at all. If you prescribe fewer opiates people have fewer people engaging in behavior that leads to addiction. -
2018-08-04 at 9:13 PM UTCI think the cats out of the bag and real drug educations including harm reduction techniques will curb future addiction and not less (safer) drugs.
Watching cocaine being made is the only thing that has ever made me not want to do cocaine. -

honestly the only real problem is that people expect to buy heroin and they get fucking FENTANYL
some of us are a little more discerning with our drugs so we don't instantly die when we get a new hook up, but a lot of people don't.
I really don't like shady freaks spiking perfectly cut heroin with fentanyl, its fucked up and I would personally love to bash some foreheads into oatmeal. the DEA even found a shipment of cocaine cut with it. wtf? if I'm buying cocaine I want cocaine, not fentanyl.
death squads when? -

This right here is reason enough to immediately legalise and regulate drugs. -
2018-08-18 at 2:01 AM UTCFinally, today, something was mentioned about opioids.
Pharmas are going to reduce production by 10% of oxycodone, morphine, and fentynal.
