They cheapened the books in my mind.
Obviously you create images in your head from the books...the over exposure to the movies since has now replaced my images with the movie ones. -

I hate Elijah Wood as Frodo and I don't care about Orlando Bloom as Legolas either. Fortunately for me, when I read the books, I can still remove their faces from my imagination. They bother me much more when I watch the movie, rather then when I read the books.
