For thousands of years … no communication whatsoever ever (except with Japan) we can live in a little bubble on earth and slowly over time send Americans to exo-solar planets to rebuild the republic elsewhere etc
you think the US can be in any way self sufficient?
that they'll have the means and resources to run a greatly expanded space program without international trade or information exchange? -

Children are our future. and to fantasize about this or practice it in simulation will only lead to violating a human child's life. they will want to do it in the real world. not everyone but even few will be educating themselves on how to really do it and get away with it while destroying the life of someone who may have been a great, kind individual and possibly block them from coming up with the answer to curing cancer or some other horrible disease or something else of great value for society.
I mean literally.. that and say training yourself to harm our future knowing someone can do something bad to kids. -

We could to a degree but it's always good to have a global community of science for the betterment of mankind. but We could run it as efficiently without obvious extra advice to boost it to the next level.
this goes with anything. but we got pretty far without the aide of russia helping us. -

I was alone for a bit but I felt lonely. but this is california.. it's not the midwest. it's hard to talk to people for more then a minute or two. it comes off as needy and not friendly.

I was talking more about resources required for space travel, semiconducters and electronics in general - very little are (or can be) mined domestically.
you'd also need to overhaul the education system, which would take quite a while and require a paradigm shift, to end your dependence on the H1B visas -

when we can get a convayorline of space crafts to and fro from Mars, I bet anything it is rich in ore. clearly with a rusted surface of oxidized iron. iron might lead us to find copper, gold, silver, nickle and so on.
I'm still wondering about what happened to the plasma thrust project. I'v seen a youtube video where a guy has what looks like a frisby size disk which emits plasma in jolts and makes a whip cracking sound (it's pretty cool) and it just takes straight off and upward. or whatabout small micro size nuclear or hydrogene explosions to generate thrust once it's several thousand miles out into space? imagine how fucking fast that would travel to and from Mars. probably a decent fraction of the light of speed. if it takes like 10-20 minutes from earth to mars.. this could probably excel and then brake with pin point accuracy in a single day or 10-12 hours even. just running a geosync orbit above mars with a teather line of several hundred lifts pulling up tons of ore and shipping it back to earth.. thousands of these space cars moving ore. 40 years from now? or a space sail. using solar winds. and Venus has molten material 24/7 just churning itself. I'm curious if it could be scooped up and cooled as it's teathered in space by a teatherline made of some coposited material that could stand the temps much higher. -

I was under the impression plasma jets were the current standard but it looks like pulsed plasma jet turbines are still being developed.
Using (high) explosives as a propellant doesn't typically work because they release pressure so quickly (wiki) that they'll tear apart the thing you're trying to push. In the case of nuclear you'd also be blasting all the sensitive equipment on the rocket with gamma radiation, and I have no idea how the vacuum of space would affect the explosion's characteristics
