    Never bought a domain before, one I like is "parked" ( I guess that's what it's called, where someone is holding it in speculation ) registrar is ENOM, INC . godaddy says it's mine for about 2500 bucks and amusingly enom.com says a higher price of around 2700.

    I think I will want to use it in the future but I don't think it's worth that much to me currently. Anyone negotiated prices on domains before? I would be willing to spend 3 or 400 US to acquire it now.

    I think for the most part the value is estimated based on how close it is to other popular URLs so they're likely nowhere near accurate. Before making an offer ask the holder how much they want for it.

    I've only ever bought domains straight from the registrar though, fuck those domain squatting cock fiends

    it's probably .com you're looking at for that price, and a single english word or phrase too. Domains that expire go to auction, ones that are parked, you contact the owner listed in the whois and wait for a reply. Email the contact, or go to the registrar and submit a request, offer 400... wait for 6 months... then you got it (but probably will never hear from them again, and get spam from other people selling domains)

    Or, find a catchy domain that isnt a .com and utilize a non-traditional TLD like cytu.be or any of the hundreds of new TLDs, go to Namecheap.com and search new TLDs.

    yes, a relatively short .com

    It's the name for a business - comprised of a pretty common persons name and a common service. along the lines of martinezpaving.com ( that isn't it ). A few small businesses of the same or similar name as the desired domain exist in other markets but have either a lame domain name or no site at all.

    as far as estimated values, I have no idea if there are any respected or useful appraisals but;
    https://www.freevaluator.com/ claims it is worth about 200.00
    https://www.godaddy.com/domain-value-appraisal claims 1,200.00
    http://valuemydomain.name thinks it is worth 500.00 , and says it has been registered for over 12 years - So I guess they have probably spent a hundred or so bucks renewing it over the years.

    I really hate domain squatters. Keep in mind by paying for the domain you're encouraging their behaviour.

    If they didn't park it for the last 12 years then someone else would probably actually be using it for real. And it wouldn't be me and I would have basically no hope of obtaining it.

    So they actually help me have more options.

    it's not all that bad, domains have to have some sort of arbitrary value, otherwise some company would've just squatted on every possible domain already and charge a premium. The rule is simple, either be clever and original, or pay the premium to some asshole
