I ate nothing but venison for like six months a couple years ago and everything was fine, all you really need is protein and vitamin c.

It was confirmed about Glorfindel but I'm of the opinion that it probably was an afterthought on Tolkien's part, not part of the initial narrative.

Regarding Legolas: I believe he recognized Durin's Bane to be a Balrog before even Gandalf. It's possible that he'd heard stories growing up, but there's also the possibility that he was around to see them firsthand in an age where their numbers were many.

Yeah, he did change Glorfindel origins, but there were two Glorfindels in his earlier drafts so whichever he picked for LOTR, he was def. from the first age. I think the problem was more about his family tree (?), and he had many versions about different characters in the The Sil. There are some different version of Gild-Galad, or was it Fingon? I don't remember who was supposed to be the son of whom etc.

The new edition is coming in August?

I would say he was definitely a linguist first, a writer second, and a genealogist third.

The story of Beren and Lúthien. The observant reader will have noticed the similarities between their story and the story of Arwen and Aragorn. And the astute observer will have noticed that in the LotR movies after Aragorn has sung Elendil's Oath the music will well up a bit then die down. Arwen comes into view at that point and a song is sung in the background. And the words are: "Tinuviel Elvanui Elleth alfirin edhelhael O hon ring finnil fuinui A renc gelebrin thiliol" Which is Sindarin, Tinuviel being a name the elves use for Lúthien. With the rest of the lyrics saying: (Tinuviel) The elven-fair, immortal maiden elven-wise, about him cast her shadow hair, and her arms as silver.

Which is a nod to the silmarillion and the story i mentioned.

Anyway, i sometimes lurk NetSec, Python, and Unresolved Mysteries.
