Why wouldn't you just tell a person directly if you wanted them to know something?
Maybe someone wants to sway someones opinion/beliefs.
I've noticed that people will do and say things in front of me and Ill pretend not to hear and not to see, and they will repeat over and over. Its kind of funny because, they try hard and I'm kind of messing with them but really, their efforts are worthless since I wouldn't care eitherway.
I was just wondering why people seem to care about little social statuses so much. -

Of course I'm aware of that, like if I don't want someone to know something I won't say it within earshot of them. And of course the audience that might be indirectly listening influences what I'll talk about. But I've never specifically said something with the intention of being overheard.I don't think there's any other way you could legitimately be innocent of doing this. I mean you've never been on the job and explaining something to someone new when you knew your boss could overhear and it makes you sound like you know what you're doing? You've never scored highly on a test and then one of those smug motherfuckers who base their entire life's worth in their grades comes up to you and asks you, and you proudly say your score in an effort to curb their ego, so that they won't get the satisfaction of trying to do the same to you in front of other people? You've never walked somewhere drunk late at night with friends, seen some sketchy looking characters on the street and changed the tone and quality of your voice to sound a little rougher so that they won't think you're an easy target yuppie?
No, I've never done any of these things. They all seem kinda dumb to me, most of them don't even seem like something that would work in the way you'd want it to, or at least not if I was the one trying to do it.You've never been in a conversation with multiple people where one of the participants is your crush, and a third person asks you about something you did, and you talk it up and embellish it a little bit to make you sound more appealing to your crush?
This seems like a bit of a different situation, since you're still basically telling the person you're trying to impress something directly. Like of course I've exaggerated stories but I don't do it in the opposite direction of the person I'm trying to get to hear said story.I don't believe it, and if you truly have never done any of those things, I think there is a massive layer to social interaction that you have somehow remained unaware of.
I mean I know that's something some people do, but it seems like as soon as you realize that's what they're doing the whole thing becomes pointless since, you know, you're back to the situation of telling someone something directly only now you look like a passive aggressive cunt for doing it. -

I'm not talking about saying something to someone else solely for a 3rd person to hear, I just mean that it's impossible to have a conversation with someone where other people can hear it where their presence isn't going to affect what you say or how you say it. Those were just random examples that I thought up off the top of my head, but in each of those, you might have said the same thing had the other person not been there, but if you do say it with them present, they will hear it, and both you and they will know that. Knowing that, it would be impossible for you to speak and not know that what you say will have some effect on the other person's opinion of you.
If I am talking to Tom about the color green and Jill is within earshot and I know she really likes green, I know that I won't be able to talk about the color without it effecting Jill's opinion of me. And maybe I want to sleep with her and that's my social agenda, and I don't really like the color green that much but I say that I do to achieve my agenda. -

OK, but that's pretty different than:

2018-04-12 at 4:16 AM UTCI have a really unusual skill that allows me to say anything to one person, even in the context of a larger group, and ensure that only my target hears me. Sometimes I'll just say something really fucked up and they'll look around, open-mouthed, unsure how nobody else overheard. I don't know how I developed this, but I use comedic timing and I think it's appreciated.

2018-04-12 at 6:59 PM UTCWhy would Kim Jong-un insult me by calling me "old," when I would NEVER call him "short and fat?" Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend - and maybe someday that will happen!
