Social Things...

Do people in society purposely talk with each other in front of(or radius of) other people with the intention of them overhearing information...for their own social agenda.

I'm talking about about rumors and/or things that might make a person jelous or upset.

What do these people do if someone puts in earbuds and listens to music? Their social agenda goes to shit and they are left with a finger up their butt...

    Yes people do that

    No but seriously...

No I AM serious. I do it sometimes. Like say stuff loud enough for others to hear, but not make it obvious that I’m doing it on purpose. Usually it’s to just let someone else join the conversation and include them.

Sometimes though it’s to control the flow of information. Control the narrative, so to speak. Also I’ll do it if I’m trying to flush out a mole/snitch. Make sure certain people hear certain things and see where it ends up.. etc.

    I thought everybody does this

I've garnered a lot of valuable information doing shit like this.

Sorta along lines of keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Sometimes you have to give a little to get the real prize of info.

Yes, my coworker did this just yesterday, telling me about an oz of bud that went missing from his room and it was so crazy because it had to be there but it wasn't. He told me this while the server he lives with was within earshot, clearly because he thinks she took it.

After he left , she came to me and told me that she in fact, did take the Oz because he apparently took one from her a while back.

I don't really know who to believe so I just laugh at them and remind them why I like living alone.

Everybody does this, even if they're not aware or willing to admit that they do

    I don't think I've ever done this.

Why wouldn't you just tell a person directly if you wanted them to know something?

The only situation is if you wanted to boast about something but didn't want to seem like you're rubbing someone's face in it. But then you're still rubbing someone's face in it so it seems like the same thing really.

I do this, but not very often. It's for when you want someone to know that you know something without telling them yourself

Lies. You mean to tell me you aren't aware that people overhear things and that this doesn't influence your choice of what you say? I don't think there's any other way you could legitimately be innocent of doing this. I mean you've never been on the job and explaining something to someone new when you knew your boss could overhear and it makes you sound like you know what you're doing? You've never scored highly on a test and then one of those smug motherfuckers who base their entire life's worth in their grades comes up to you and asks you, and you proudly say your score in an effort to curb their ego, so that they won't get the satisfaction of trying to do the same to you in front of other people? You've never walked somewhere drunk late at night with friends, seen some sketchy looking characters on the street and changed the tone and quality of your voice to sound a little rougher so that they won't think you're an easy target yuppie? You've never been in a conversation with multiple people where one of the participants is your crush, and a third person asks you about something you did, and you talk it up and embellish it a little bit to make you sound more appealing to your crush?

I don't believe it, and if you truly have never done any of those things, I think there is a massive layer to social interaction that you have somehow remained unaware of.
