    The reason youtube gets away with its bullshit is because it's funded by google, and that enables it to make a massive loss every year. Also they use google's infrastructure to deliver the video - and the video files are huge - delivering that content isn't cheap.
    
    Alternatives exist, like vimeo, bitchute and pew.tube, but vid.me has already folded.
    
    Until we find a way to allow people to pay for the content they consume we will continue being the bitches of the likes of youtube.

    If we were to go to a new place, couldn't they pay for the hosting with ads? Or limit video size/length?
    
    Then again with the way people are now if it isn't 4000p or whatever the newest version of HD is, they won't watch it. Drives me crazy when an obscure racing series or show or something i like gets put on youtube in 720p for free and the comment section is full of ungrateful shits complaining about the video quality

    They didn't have anywhere near the current level of traffic. Fewer users, videos were mostly low quality and limited to 10 minutes in length.
    
    Youtube will not be dethroned unless the government decides to step in and break up Google for being a predatory monopoly, which is unlikely since the government is in their back pocket and always several steps behind anyway.
