see the thing is an economy is about a population providing for itself and dividing the work needed to provide equally amongst itself.
so for a simple analogy, if you had an small island nation of 100 people who were all of working adult age just to keep it simple. that 100 people need all sorts of resources, everything from food, raw materials, building work, clean water, clothing, heating, entertainment etc etc etc etc. you know all the stuff that a population needs to survive and prosper. so all the work to provide all that is done by those 100 people and they manage to get what needs to be done, mainly by concentrating their skill sets. i.e the guy who is good at building builds the houses, the guy who is good at mechanics fixes the vehicles, the guy good at designing clothes designs all the cloths etc etc etc.
if you have 20 new people came to join this small island nation you now have 20 more mouths to feed, 20 more people to cloth, to entertain, to build houses for, and all the other shit that everyone else uses.
so who is going to provide all this shit? do you think the original 100 people are all going to do overtime and work even more while those 20 people do nothing? no, of course not, the 20 people will join the work force to cover all the extra work that needs to be done. so it doesn't matter if a hundred thousand or even a million more immigrants come to this country, you see they are creating just as many jobs as they are taking, just by being here.
that is why the UK, who is in the top ten for GDP and has 65 million people manages to provide for itself. if it was the way your logic suggests then you would expect to see at most a population of 65 million people being able to provide fully, which in the united states would leave 265 million people unemployed.
is that the case over there jill? do you have 265 million people unemployed in your country?
i mean being a nation of immigrants this really is a phenomenon that should be pretty fucking obvious to you, to be fair.
