why do people think "calling their congressman" is going to do a goddamn thing for their cause?

it doesn't, like your congressman gives a fuck about what you think unless you're throwing them a cool million

it's like everyone knows it's bullshit but it's something they do anyways so they can have the illusion that they're making an impact

    morons

It works cos for everyone who calls about a thing there's like a thousand people or something who care, but don't call.

That has no bearing on the fact that the congressman doesn’t actually give a shit what people think.

I mean, they do care about what people think of them if they plan to run for reelection. I think the idea is your congressman may not know the public opinion on some issue, so contacting them en masse signals what would be good policy to secure your vote in the future.

I'm pretty sure politicians care about perceptions. That's their job.

They care anyway as they have to live, they have friends who will be annoyed if they are made look bad, they have parties that want to contest future elections, and the entire system depends on people feeling that they have some sort of decision power and that their opinions matter for it's legitimacy.

    Perception management is a politician's #1 job.

i know of several instances where congressmen...plural...did nothing more than make a few phone calls, while wearing their golf wear or literally tshirt-shorts, which resulted in...significant results.

some fun parts were there are some where they did nothing other than text one of their lackeys to make a phone call or two to get something done.

one instance i know of first-hand that i can actually avoid revealing PI to describe was when i was in the military some little faggot decided he didnt like people telling him what to do and stuff...and that waking up before the sun comes up thing...so he tried everything he could do to get discharged. that wasnt working because he already signed up, and tough shit.

eventually he called mumsie and popsie who called their congressman/senator who then called...literally...the base CO...and the little faggot disappeared less than a week later.

i dont think anyone in this thread actually doubts congresspersons power ....

but rather the callers power to sway their congresspeople.

depends on what leverage they have and what they can do to benefit the congressman.

the military pansy i mentioned earlier was the sprog of parents who ran a private LLC with several thousand employees.
