    Volk is all you need.
    Your people, your bloodline.

more and more it seems like culture is a product of religion, and that when you take away the religion the culture slowly dies

Well there is the modern university system, which is a product of the scholastic reforms and teaching of monks at the time of the Carolingians. Without the monastic foundation, there would be very little in the way of higher education in the West. Yes, it was long ago but in the history of Christianity, not to mention the entire context of human achievement, it is ultimately a very recent development.

Religion definitely does way more good than bad. They provide food, water, shelter, and emotional/financial support, for millions of people everyday.

Angsty atheists like to bring up the catholic priest rape thing, but the rate is roughly same as the rest of the general populace so it's a pretty retarded point. It'd be like me saying that Kroger managers are all murderers because a handful of them murdered people. Should religious organizations be held to higher standards? Yes. But they're people all the same.

The only organized religion I cannot get behind is Islam. There are some people in high places promoting violence. It's not cool. Most Muslims themselves are cool though.

I don't really understand it well enough to judge; especially given that it's fragmented into different groups with profoundly different beliefs more than any of the other similar religions.

As I understand it most of the really unsavoury stuff (paedophilia, genocide etc.) is in the Hadiths, not the Qu'ran proper. Some sects consider them canon while others do not
