This was in the mid-2000's.
But now every teen seems to have their phone on them in school. Did they change the rules just because cellphones became more popular? Isn't that fucked that I was getting detentions for having my phone in school? Can I sue?

Everyone has their cell phone. They just made the rule of not allowing them so they could and can laugh at the dipshits who were and are too stupid to be able to conceal their cell usage.

lol, that awkward phase between cell phones becomes commonplace and being considered a basic human right in the western world was when I was in school. You could have a phone but not use it in class but it was just this continual slide form more and more restrictive rules to no one giving a fuck.

Same here. I graduated in 06. Cell phones weren't super popular here though for some reason. I mean people had them but it's almost like only geeks and dope boys had them. I held off so long on getting one until my mom got me one when I was 17 and I secretly hated her for it. Fucking bitch!

When I was in High School I could bring in a gun.
If you belonged to the rifle club you just dropped it off at the principles office and he would lock it up I shit you not.
We also had a smoking area so we could smoke cigs but everyone was getting high and dealing drugs.
We didn't even know what a cell phone was because they hadn't been invented yet.

Do Australians call mobile phones cellphones?
I got my first phone around 1999, but it was a pretty crappy one. The cool phone to have was a Nokia, especially a 3310.
There was a whole shit-show here when camera-phones came out, with workplaces trying to ban them, etc.

As a kid, I had to use smoke signals and a mirror to communicate. At night, we couldn't talk at all and had to wait until sunrise.
