What do you want to achieve out here? since my divorce..If I didn't have 2 goons from Highschool I crash part-time with, and a girlfriend the other times (which has become almost every day now) I don't think I would try and stay here long.
It's not the hottest place, and it's not the coldest place.. places like Oakland would be paradise if 0 crime existed because there is no seasons. it's 68-72 330 days a year with an occasional hot spell or shitloads of rain.
Go to Shattuck street in Berkeley, there is a place for 300 a year (But pay monthly.. then stop service when you get your shit) that will give you a "Unit" address with a real address. Call Comcast or AT&T and tell them to send you a physical itemized bill of what it would cost for services, to compare with other bills of phone companies. don't ask for a sample. now you have a temporary utility bill. Try it with multiple utility services. this way, you can have a few to look over to see what looks best.
You should have this info in a week.
Take it to the DMV and that will be your physical address. Don't stop the mailing service until you get everything. its like 30 a month.
Now, once you get your ID (you can hold off on a driving license for now.. they will make you take it)
Make sure you have your Social Security card. If you don't have one.. find out where you were born and start asking them how to get one.. You can't work in California without a SS ID Card.
once you get the Cali ID or License and SSID.. you can work anywhere officially while living out of your car.
Now take that same ID and Utility bill to a post office in Berkeley and get a PO Box, and stop the address place, unless you want to pay that much.. Post office is 10 bucks a month vs their 30-40 a month.
Now, grab the first Job you can.. and open a bank account. Like go to a subway and get a Job. then open a bank account with auto pay. they usually (to test you and see if you truly have a place to live) send your first check to a mailing address. So You might want to keep that Unit box open still before going to the Post office. or open both.
when the shithole workplace makes payments to your bank.. buy small amounts of shit at the store with the bank credit card/debit they give you.. use it as a Credit instead of electronic banking.. and after 6 months of doing this, you should have enough money to buy a new car.. get a cross over SUV (unless you're fucking tall.. get something like Minivan) this is great, No get your cali license and go to work for UBER.. once they make you do a 21 inspection test (free at their hub) you can just drive 10 hours a day, 5-6 days a week. make 2-300 a day on good days.. 150 on bad. instant pay, set up an account at your car dealer for instant pay and make sure you have plenty in that account for it and insurance. don't get credit cards.. you'll run them up.
Live by a beach.. I really think you should do this in LA.. it's warm 10 months out of a year. Orange county, inland not the beach.. until the beach months are warm enough.
Unless you have programming skills, a law degree or Paralegal or medical skills.. San francisco or Oakland doesn't offer much in blue collar outside of taxi and rideshare to make good money.
Stay in LA until you have some money to visit San Francisco. don't just come here to live. Your car will get towed at some point, it's like 500-700 the first day of impounding and 99 dollars a day after that. if you don't have money in the bank.. your car is gone. you're living on the streets
tl/dr: Try testing the waters in LA before coming to the bay. -
2018-02-06 at 5:45 AM UTCBTW I meant buy stuff at stores and then use your phone ap to transfer payment and pay off what ever you bought at the store.. just 20-30 at a time.. few times a week. never let it ride. pay it off that very night. this i the fastest way to build up a FICO score.. if in the 700s (like over 730) you can pretty much get a loan fro a car. sometimes without anything down.

If you can push outwards towards Los Gatos that's a nice region with a bunch of state parks and stuff near by. If not proximity to caltrain is a good thing.
Dispensary prices should be pretty much on part with Colorado, a lot of people argue quality is higher in northern CA than anywhere else because of climate or some shit but I'm pretty sure that's just a weird kind of regional pride thing, I'm sure they can figure out how to send weed a few states over if it really is any better. -

You can drive a freight truck between the states in like like two days right? Unless there's some other pressure affecting one market but not the other prices should equalize.
