Let me know the voltage and microfarads of the capacitors you need. They literally cost pennies online.

and ship them to a turd world country where literally peoples average wage per day is about less than $5 ???

i live in SEA. will the shipping costs more than the caps themselves ???

Just shell out the bucks for a new one, if the rest of the build is old you won't need anything fancy or expensive. Better than rolling the dice on fucking your CPU or RAM to extend the life of a dying motherboard a little bit.

The CPU is a mid range Core2Duo and the RAM is DDR2. The only thing that's worth anything on this computer are the 4 hard drives.

I assume those won't be damaged too badly when this rig does blow.

The computer is a tower computer around 10 years old.

Let me guess it's an Optiplex from Dell.

From independent electronic suppliers, probably, but you could always just use eBay for something like that then.

You can find them in packs of whatever (5, 10, etc.) and usually have free shipping anywhere. That's a good online source for someone in your situation. Just search for the voltage and microfarads of the caps you need.

i wonder how many operatives, CIA or otherwise, would undergo sex changes in order to serve their country.

Dell's motherboard supplier in Taiwan got a bad shipment of capacitors from a supplier around 2002 - 2003. It affected mostly the Optiplex 680 if I recall.

Mine is an Optiplex 390. Here's a picture of the worst capacitor.

Yup, that's same MOBO and capacitors. I worked I a few different Dell enterprise environments. Actually HP and Apple got some boards with the same shity Jap Caps. Dell actually stood behind that shot and warrantied that shit up until like 2013. HP and Apple were like "We make computers not capacitors". Buy a used compatible board or scrap it.

I don't know. Sometimes you can find a used board on eBay or something for super cheap, then its worth it. Other times, you can't find your particular revision.

Swollen caps are bad caps, so are the ones around them. Replace all of the caps and you probably have a fine board.

That system is like a 72 pinto. When it dies you don't throw away time and money you replace it.

I replaced a capacitor in an old LCD TV yesterday, and it's working now.

It was unusual as the TV was showing red lines to one side, like it was going off sync, and the only capacitor that looked at all damaged was in the power supply board.

So it is possible. I don't know about doing it on a motherboard though, those things have way more going on that a power supply board does.

Haahha 72 Pinto, I like that comparison. I dunno man. I fix things. It would hurt me to throw it away, even as old as it is. In my fucked up mind, I am always thinking, "BUT I COULD INSTALL LINUX ON IT AND MAKE IT A _________" machine. Always trying to repurpose lol.

Red lines on the LCD is typically NOT a capacitor but rather, Tab Bonds on the LCD display itself or TCON board. You replaced ONE capacitor and it cured it all? While that's totally possible, so highly unlikely, especially due to the vertical lines

I used to be that guy. It wasn't until 2010 until I threw out my old 286 and 386.
