   I never liked that scene. An axe seems like a really awful murder weapon.
   
   In real life, unless Patrick hit Paul right on the head the axe would probably bounce off/deflect off Paul's arm/skull, then Paul Allen would run around the apartment shouting and getting blood everywhere while Patrick hacks away at him.
   
   I see knife and machete killings all the time on liveleak - they're messy and take ages.

   thats the thing about axes...the head is so heavy and there is so much leverage from the handle that even if there was an arm held up the momentum would either push it out of the way or cut through it. (depending on the strength of the swinger)

    True, not to mention the weight of the axe head itself. Once you put a decent amount of force behind it to set it in motion, it's going to want to keep on going.
